    We are starting to hear of disruption to bin services across the region.

    Mansfield and Ashfield district councils in Nottinghamshire have suspended collections today due to the weather and safety of staff.

    However, both authorities have asked residents to leave their bins out if it is safe to do so.

    Meanwhile in Leicestershire, Charnwood Borough Council has suspended garden waste collections due to staff shortages.

    We're not aware of any disruption to bin collections in Derbyshire yet, but we will keep you updated throughout the morning.

  3. More than 30 schools closed in Nottinghamshirepublished at 08:51 GMT 9 January

    We are aware of more than 30 school closures in Nottinghamshire.

    They include the Brunts Academy in Mansfield, Brinsley Primary School and Underwood C Of E Primary School.

    The Joseph Whitaker School in Rainworth is closed but said scheduled exams would take place.

    The county council, external is advising parents to check school websites for details.

    More than 30 schools in Derby and Derbyshire have made the decision to close to students this morning.

    These include Landau Forte College, Da Vinci Academy, Chellaston Academy, Tupton Hall School in Chesterfield and all Derby College sites.

    We've been made aware of at least 20 school closures in Leicester and Leicestershire now.

    The list includes Quorn Hall School, South Wigston High School, Castle Rock School in Coalville and Brook Mead Academy in Leicester.

    Many schools tend to send out their own alerts but closures will also be listed on council websites.

    Nottingham Express Transit (NET) says trams are currently unable to run between Wilkinson Street and Nottingham railway station due to a power failure.

  8. Bin rounds cancelled in North West Leicestershirepublished at 08:18 GMT 9 January

    North West Leicestershire District Council says it has decided to stop waste and recycling collections on Friday due to the weather conditions, external.

    Those with Friday collections (including trade waste) have been advised to put their bins outside on Monday instead.

  9. 'Business as usual' at Beeston travel hubpublished at 08:09 GMT 9 January

    It seems to be pretty much business as usual here at the bus and tram interchange in Beeston. In the 10 minutes I've been here, 18b, 36 and Indigo bus services have passed through as normal.

    The tram operator has the words "we are operating a regular service" on its display boards - a welcome relief to the cold-looking commuters waiting to board services to the Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham city centre.

    We mentioned three lanes being closed on the M1 northbound between junctions 28 and 29 following a lorry crash. Here's a picture from National Highways' cameras showing tailbacks building as a result.

    Arriva has also announced a number of services that are disrupted due to the snow.

    In Leicestershire, the X3, 31/31A/X31, 47/48 are serving main roads only.

    The 27 and 158 services have been suspended.

    All routes in Derby, apart from route 38, are suspended due to "poor road conditions", the firm said.

  12. Lorry crash on the M1published at 07:45 GMT 9 January

    National Highways says three lanes are closed on the M1 northbound between junction 28 for Mansfield and junction 29 for Chesterfield following a crash involving a lorry.

    It says recovery is under way and winter fleet vehicles are en-route to clear snow that has settled in closed lanes.

    The incident has led to delays of up to 30 minutes and four miles of congestion.

  13. Trentbarton warns of service disruptionpublished at 07:40 GMT 9 January

    Bus company trentbarton says a number of its services are being affected by the difficult weather conditions.

    As of 05:30 GMT, the firm said there were no services running out of its Sutton-in-Ashfield depot, including the Threes, Nines, 90 and Connect.

    The H1 service, which runs from Derby to Heanor to Alfreton, is also currently not running.

    Part of the Skylink Nottingham service is not being served and services are terminating at East Midlands Airport.

    These include Bosworth Academy in Desford and Leicester Grammar School.

    Bad news for people with bulging bins - collections in Mansfield have been halted by the district council due to unsafe conditions, external.

    Derbyshire County Council says it has closed five of the county's "highest" roads overnight.

    • The A57 Snake Pass, from the junction with the A6013 to Glossop
    • The A54/A537 Cat and Fiddle, from the junction with Leek Road, Buxton to the county boundary
    • The A6024 Holme Moss, from the junction with the A628 to the county boundary
    • The A53 Axe Edge, from the junction with Grin Low Road, Buxton to the county boundary
    • The A5004, Long Hill, from the Horwich End traffic lights at Whaley Bridge to the A53 St John’s Road, Buxton
    • Via Gellia is also closed after Woodside Cafe after the junction with the road to Bonsall up to Grangemill (the junction with the B5056)

  20. Shopping complex closed due to snowpublished at 06:58 GMT 9 January

    East Midlands Designer Outlet in South Normanton has announced it will be closed today between 09:00 and 14:00 due to the winter weather.

    It said the closure might be extended "depending on the weather conditions and safety considerations".
