  2. A message from Peter Kay’s former personal trainer... Paddy McGuinnesspublished at 09:43 GMT 12 November 2025

    Paddy McGuinness
    BBC Radio 2 Presenter

My message is not so much for Sara, it's for everyone else - people power.

When I did my challenge, that's what got me through, and you won't realise it, you might be looking on the live tracker and you know Sara's coming through your town and you might think "she'll be alright" - get out.

Get out, support her, it's so important. Whether you donate or not, get out, get on the road, cheer her on.

People power - that's what got me over the line.

She's right in the eye-of-the-storm now, she's got through the exciting of the first day, and then it slowly dawns on you, when you're on the the roads on your own, it's quiet, it's cold, it's raining.

You feel a bit dejected, but you see someone on the side of the road, they smile and it carries you through.

  3. Your messages keep coming - just like the hills!published at 09:39 GMT 12 November 2025

    Quote Message

When I try to do hard things, my mum tells me this mantra: "I can do hard things". So you can do hard things, Sara Cox. The whole country is behind you!

We're just outside Wolsingham, pulled over to see Sara with my husband Nick. She's going up a really, really big hill, bless her. She's pulled over to change her trainers, she looks in so much pain, but she's carrying on. We told her to think about the pies and all the chocolate - chaff now, pie later, Sara!

    Peter Kay
    Comedian and actor

Northern legend Peter Kay had a special message for Sara earlier...

Hello Sara, it’s Peter. This, what you’re doing now is a massive challenge - huge! I thought Paddy and Vernon had it hard, but you’re taking it to the next level! What’s next, Scott Mills skipping up the M1?

Your poor feet! Listen, whenever you’re up against it, when you feel like you can’t go on, and the tops of your legs are chaffing, just think of Children in Need and what it means.

Saying that, all that money they’ve raised and they’ve still not fixed Pudsey’s eye!

  6. What a moment...published at 09:13 GMT 12 November 2025

  7. "I'll be ugly-crying"published at 09:11 GMT 12 November 2025

    Sara Cox
BBC Radio 2's Great Northern Marathon Woman

Don’t be nice to me, because you know I’ll be doing some ugly-crying by the side of the road. They promised me undulating today, that was a lie! This ain’t undulating - it’s mountainous!

I’ve got the laughy-cries, I heard Peter Kay’s message which was amazing, Jo Whiley taking part in a Five song just gave me a real boost, it can't have come naturally, so thank you Jo.

  8. "This is ridiculously tough"published at 09:07 GMT 12 November 2025

    Scott Mills
    BBC Radio 2 Presenter

Sara Cox is well on her way for Day 3 of her Great Northern Marathon Challenge.

The ascent was gruelling yesterday, and the hills don't stop there I'm afraid. Today, I've looked and it's hill after hill. If you've ever done something incredible, like a half marathon or marathon, and you've trained so hard for months and you get those miles done, and everyone's cheering around you and you feel so proud of yourself, what an accomplishment.

Imagine that feeling, but then, you wake up the next day and you've got to do another one.

This is ridiculously tough, she's doing this all for Children in Need - your donations will make such a difference.

  9. We're over a million!published at 09:00 GMT 12 November 2025

If anything could lift Sara's spirits today then it was always going to be the amazing and generous donations from the Radio 2 listeners!

And Scott Mills just revealed on air that the latest total is in... and we're over the million mark!

The official latest total is... £1,002,869!

That is incredible support for Sara, for Children in Need and for the Great Northern Marathon Challenge!

We can't thank you enough! Find out how to support Sara with a donation.

    Sara Cox

As Scott Mills just noted on Radio 2, Sara is now trying to walk the next stretch backwards - because she's in a lot of pain.

"If I'm honest, she's really, really struggling this morning," Scott said. "I really feel for her. She needs all the help she can get."

  14. Everything to know about Five...published at 08:25 GMT 12 November 2025

Boyband Five posing, from left to right, Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson, Abz Love and Jason Paul Brown.

Radio 2 have just premiered a brand new mashup of the 1999 hit single Keep On Movin' by the group Five - with extra vocals from the Radio 2 family.

Formed in 1997, Five were one of the most successful hit Brit boybands and sold over 20 million records. With smash hits like Keep On Movin', If Ya Gettin' Down and Everybody Get Up, it's no surprise they were such a global success.

At the height of their popularity all members called it a day due to stress and pressure, with Abz claiming in a BBC interview that the rise to fame was "too much too fast - way too fast."

25 years after their split, Abz, Jason, Ritchie, Scott and Sean are reuniting for the Keep On Movin' arena tour - much to millenials' delight.

The reunion didn't come without its worries, with the band unsure they could still sing and dance! However, rehearsals have confirmed that all members have still Got The Feelin'.

With Sara facing the hilliest day of her challenge, let's hope this fresh take on one of their signature tracks proves just the motivation she needs to get across those hills!

  15. Keep On Movin', Sara!published at 08:20 GMT 12 November 2025

"Sara has always been a big supporter of us, we’re very close with her. We’ve got nothing but words of encouragement for her, but we thought we’d go one step further, so we just rewrote Keep On Movin’ for you!"
