Moments later, she is relaxing in the sun.

Other animals take it all in their stride.

"This is London Zoo's existing animal hospital. Built in the 1950s, it is the first of its kind in the world, and the plan is to replace it with a brand new wildlife health centre based here at the zoo's headquarters in Regent's Park."

It will mean visitors can see health checks like this one on a big-headed turtle.

The zoo says much more rarely, there'll be surgical procedures, sometimes even post-mortems.

Critics say the plans are more about monetising public curiosity than benefiting wildlife.

The society says the new wildlife health centre is a natural progression of the scientific research and conservation effort it says has been at the heart of its mission for the last 200 years.

It says it will be a centre of expertise for wildlife medicine, and will serve as a global training hub for wildlife vets, and it is hoping it will help ensure the zoo's continued relevance for the next 200 years.

学会还表示，它将是野生动物医疗的专业技术中心，并成为全球野生动物兽医的培训枢纽。该组织希望它能让伦敦动物园在接下来的两百年里继续维持自身的价值和意义。
