Gold Sony Award one: Themed Programming

BBC Hereford & Worcester was given one gold Sony award for its series on family life.

The special series of programming looked at some of the issues facing some families across the two counties, including:

• The choice facing some foster parents over one little girl.

• How the credit crunch hit a single parent, bringing up a daughter on one income.

• How having a son who is severely autistic affects family life.

BBC Hereford & Worcester also commissioned a special survey, which gave some startling insights into the modern family.

It's the second time the radio academy has recognised the quality of BBC Hereford & Worcester's programmes in the last three years.

In 2006 BBC Hereford & Worcester won a gold Sony award for its series Hearing Voices, looking at people's attitudes to mental illness.

Gold Sony Award two: Station of the Year

BBC Hereford & Worcester also won a Gold Sony award in the 300,000 - 1,000,000 potential audience category, beating both BBC and Commercial nominees to the top prize.

James Coghill is the Managing Editor of BBC Hereford & Worcester, and he paid tribute to the staff of the station, as well as it's listeners:
