A family

Your family and you

A specal survey, commissioned by BBC Hereford and Worcester, gives some startling insights into the modern family.

This special survey, carried out by the University of Worcester for BBC Hereford and Worcester, highlights just how important the family is to people in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

It also hints that the credit crunch is starting to eat into people's confidence about the future of their family.

The survey revealed that:

  • Last year a BBC survey found 76% of people were positive about the future of their family. Locally that figure in this survey has dropped to 65%.
  • Men are more likely to think they're the boss – curiously this view is shared by women.
  • Men and women have an equal role in child care and domestic chores, with the exception of cooking, which is still done by more women than men.
  • The majority of people think TV has a negative impact on family, whilst a majority think radio is a positive influence.
  • The majority of people want more leisure time with their family doing activities such as talking about each others day, as opposed to just watching TV.
