Ryan's story

Ryan was born a girl but since the age of five has been convinced he’s in the wrong body. He talks the impact on his family of his fight to have surgery to change his body from a woman to a man.

Ryan, who's 28, lives in Bromsgrove and was born a girl, but since the age of five has been convinced he's in the wrong body.

He's been living as a man for many years and has been taking male hormones.

The transition includes more than twenty very painful and serious operations over the course of a couple of years.

As these audio diaries reveal, the physical struggle is only part of what he has to endure.

We also hear from his father on what it's like to bring up a daughter who changes into a son.
