EPISODE 1: PETER'S STORY...
Peter might have his head in the clouds, but his brother Nathan has an election to win. So when Peter tries to speak to him about dreams of flying, Nathan is dismissive, telling him, "It's time for you to grow up." But Peter is convinced that it's not just a dream. A chance encounter with genetics professor, Mohinder Suresh, convinces Peter that his beliefs are worth pursuing.

Peter works as a hospice nurse looking after the dying father of Simone Deveaux. Simone sees that Peter is compassionate and kind - a man who could help her with her own particular problem, her boyfriend, Issac. Armed with a vial of morphine from her father's house, Simone takes Peter to Isaac's loft. While they're there Peter notices a painting of himself flying, but there's something more shocking to come: Isaac's painting of New York City consumed by fire.

Later, high atop a New York office building, Peter Petrelli spreads his arms, he is determined to prove that he can fly. His brother Nathan stands below him and tries to get him to come down but Peter jumps. The ground rushes up to meet him, but before he hits the pavement, Nathan suddenly appears and takes flight, grabbing Peter and holding onto him in midair.
