Air quality monitors have been installed around a Jersey composting site to measure fumes being emitted.
It follows complaints by residents that pollution from the plant at La Collette where waste is dealt with outdoors is affecting their health.
St Helier's Town Constable Simon Crowcroft has called for the site to be closed down if a link can shown.
There are plans for a new indoor process that ministers said should not cause any unpleasant odours.
The States are also to consider proposals for household waste to be disposed of at a new site at La Collette, close to Jersey Electricity's power station.
So far there has been no decision on the type of plant or the method of disposal it will use.
The compost facility at La Collette would be relocated to an indoor location at Bellozanne, close to the existing site.
