Island's prison 'is almost full'
La Moye Prison

Prison authorities in Jersey have said the island's prison has almost reached its full capacity.

There are currently 181 inmates at La Moye Prison. The most that can be held there is 186.

Some of Jersey's prisoners are being sent to UK jails and others are on a tagging release scheme.

It has also been decided the jail is to have a health promotion officer who will be particularly responsible for young offenders and vulnerable inmates.

This follows a recommendation from a strategy to the States called "Building a Safer Society".
