Extra money is being given to Trading Standards in Leicestershire to help reduce the number of rogue traders.
It is hoped that the extra £75,000 will improve services in a variety of areas.
Officers will target the sale of second-hands cars, as well as checking descriptions of houses for sale are accurate.
Trading standards officers are also working to reduce the number of companies cold calling elderly or vulnerable people.
In addition, the service is working to make sure shoppers know their rights and can get their money back if they buy goods that are faulty.
