Under new Home Office anti-social behaviour measures people can be ordered to pay up for setting off fireworks after 11pm.

Bonfire night, New Year's Eve, Chinese New Year and Divali are the only exceptions. It is also illegal for anyone under 18 to carry fireworks.

Extra police will be on the streets of Derbyshire to enforce the ban.

Throwing bangers

Insp Karl Mortimer said: "We will be making full use of the new legislation in our crackdown on firework misuse.

"These new powers will enable officers to deal with firework offences on the spot both quickly and effectively."

According to officers, action will also be taken against people found to be carrying or using display fireworks, or for anyone of any age caught throwing a firework.

Caps, cracker snaps, novelty matches, party poppers, serpents, throwdowns and sparklers are exempt from the age restrictions.
