What Next After AVCE?
AVCE leavers
National
surveys show that while a majority of the old GNVQ Advanced leavers
went on to higher education, about 40% entered employment or training.
However, that varied enormously according to subject. Figures for the new AVCEs
will not be available until 2003.
As you
might guess, most leavers at this level will go into higher education, courses
or jobs related to their subject, but again this does vary
between subjects..

GNVQ
Intermediate and Foundation leavers
A majority
of GNVQ Intermediate/Foundation students continue in further
education, usually on to the next level of GNVQ in the same
subject.
A significant
minority go into jobs or training. As GNVQ Foundation and
Intermediate courses are equivalent to GCSEs, the sort of
job opportunities open would be similar to those open
to Year 11 leavers with GCSEs. However, you will leave the GNVQ course older,
more mature and have the extra knowledge and skills that come
from having taken your GNVQ course.
If you
leave school or college before you are 18, you will still be
young enough to be guaranteed a place on government-funded
training schemes like Modern Apprenticeships and National
Traineeships.
