Background to a report on the Welsh language in education in Victorian Wales.

An exploration of the reasons behind the commissioning of a report on Welsh education and the use of the Welsh language in 1846, later called the 'Treason of the Blue Books'. This report portrayed Victorian Welsh society in a bad light, and put this down to the influence of the language on Welsh life. It suggested that all education in Wales had to be through the medium of English from this time onwards.
