Monday 28 June 2010 marked the 50th anniversary of the Six Bells mining disaster when a coal and gas explosion killed 45 miners. To coincide with the anniversary, Welsh-based sculptor Sebastien Boyesen was commissioned to build a new memorial to honour the victims of the colliery disaster.
