1997: Scottish parliament bill unveiled
A bill giving Scotland its own parliament is unveiled in Glasgow on 18 December 1997.
Scottish Secretary Donald Dewar reveals his blueprint for what would be the first Scottish parliament in 300 years. The bill outlines the parliament previously described in the white paper, Scotland’s Parliament, published in July 1997.
Mr Dewar states: “This bill will give Scotland the power to boost its self-confidence economically, culturally and political.”
