1958: Britain's first female bank manager

Hilda Harding becomes the first female bank manager in the UK.

Hilda joined Barclays Bank as a shorthand-typist 24 years ago, and has worked her way up to the role of manager. She will take charge of a new branch opening in Hanover Street, Mayfair.
