1984: Libyan embassy siege ends

The siege of the Libyan embassy in St James’s Square in London ends on 27 April 1984.

Diplomats had been holed up in the building for 11 days since the murder of police officer Yvonne Fletcher, which began the siege.

The shooting occurred during a demonstration against the Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi, and a counter-demonstration held nearby.
