1964: John Lennon reads his poem Alec Speaking
On The Public Ear show, Beatles George Harrison and Ringo Starr talk about their bandmate John Lennon's book In His Own Write.
They then go on introduce the man himself who read one of his own poems Alec Speaking.
The book which consisted of surreal poems, short stories and drawings by the Lennon, sold over 600,000 copies in the UK alone when it was released.
In 1963, The Public Ear became the show young people would tune into to understand the rapid changes in music, film, fashion and culture that the UK was experiencing.
