1999: Trains collide near Paddington Station

5 October 1999, thirty-one people die and hundreds are injured in a head-on train collision near Paddington Station.

The trains collide after one of the trains passed a red signal. Carriages came off the track and one of the trains burst into flames.

The collision occurred on the same stretch of line as the Southall rail crash in 1997, in which seven people died and 150 were injured.
