1987: Police crack down on soccer hooligans

In an effort to tackle the increasing problem of football hooliganism, police carry out a series of dawn raids and make 26 arrests.

Uniformed and plain clothes officers worked for five months on Operation Fulltime, which was aimed at netting the ringleaders of the gangs that followed West Ham and Millwall.

The raids were synchronised to take place at 0600 GMT at 30 addresses in London, This BBC News report was first broadcast on 20 January 1987.
