Brooky cruises into lead
Brooky is chasing her second tour title
New Zealand's Lynnette Brooky has opened a two-shot lead after the first round of the Spanish Open at Club de Campo at Salamanca.
Brooky shot a six-under par 66 to lead Spanish amateurs Tania Eloseguiand and Emma Cabrera. Brooky managed seven birdies during the round and now wants a second Tour title to add to her win in the 1998 Austrian Open. "I'm always consistent, but it's certainly time that I got win number two," she said. "This week, I've decided just to go for everything." Scotland's Julie Forbes, runner-up in last week's Costa Azul Open in Portugal, headed the British challenge. The 35-year-old went out in 38 but returned in 31 to lie three off the pace. Forbes, whose only win was the 1994 Var Open in France, said: "I need a win, and I certainly feel I'm playing well enough."
