Football Association of Malawi (FAM) spokesman Chris Kamphinda said the 54-year old Gillet took up his training duties with the Flames on Monday.

Gillet arrived in the country on Sunday to take over from Danish coach Kim Splidsboel, whose two-year contract expired in 2002.

Malawi did not renew the contract with the Dane, saying it could not afford him after Denmark stopped all aid to the southern African country.
