Schuettler has crept into the top 10 by producing a consistently high level every week, without really threatening to win a big title.
His career high undoubtedly came at this year's Australian Open where he reached the final, but no-one was surprised when he was outclassed by Andre Agassi.
The German still got a huge rankings boost from his run in Melbourne and has since reached six quarter-finals and two semi-finals.
At 27 years old he looks to be reaching his peak, and wins over Andy Roddick, Mark Philippoussis and David Nalbandian this year would back that up.
A baseliner with great agility and a strong return, Schuettler has proved himself a threat on hard courts, reaching the semi-finals in Sydney a week before the Australian Open.
And gaining revenge over Agassi with a victory in Montreal in August will have given him added confidence.
