Bjorkman returned to the world's top 30 with a surprise appearance in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters at the end of last season.
The Swede wins most of his titles on the doubles tour with Todd Woodbridge - but he continues to be a dangerous singles player.
Happy at the net as well as trading blows from the baseline, Bjorkman ran into form on grass last year, reaching the semi-finals in Nottingham and the last eight at Wimbledon.
He followed that with a fourth-round appearance at the US Open.
A three-times doubles champion at the Australian Open, Bjorkman clearly enjoys the atmosphere in Melbourne as he has twice reached the quarter-finals in singles.
Most recently, he beat Tim Henman in 2002 before losing to eventual champion Thomas Johansson.
