1st roundv S Edberg Rusedski then a Canadian qualified for his first Wimbledon but was given a near impossible firstround draw against the grasscourt guile of twotime former champion Stefan Edberg. And so it proved. Rusedski put up a good fight but the 20yearold was finally flattened 76 64 67 76.
1994
2nd roundv C Bergstrom2nd round doubles After playing Stefan Edberg 12 months earlier Rusedski had more Swedes to contend with on his second visit to Wimbledon. He clubbed away the threat of Nicklas Kulti with a 63 64 62 win before Christian Bergstrom got the better of him 64 64 57 76. In his only doubles outing he won one and lost one with Chris Bailey.
1995
4th roundv P Sampras Rusedski changed nationality shortly before Wimbledon and immediately benefited from the patriotism of SW19's flag wavers. He beat three Frenchmen Stephane Simian Guy Forget and Olivier Delaitre to reach the fourth round for the first time. But in the last 16 he lost to the imperious Pete Sampras 64 63 75.
1996
2nd roundv B Stevens Having become British Rusedski might have expected undivided devotion from the crowd but then along came Tim Henman. While Rusedski stumbled at the second hurdle against Kiwi Brett Stevens the previously unheralded Henman reached the last eight. Rusedski has never outperformed his rival and compatriot since.
1997
Quarterfinalsv C Pioline This was Rusedski's best Wimbledon in his best year of tennis. He enjoyed the perfect fillip with a straight sets firstround win over seventh seed Mark Philippoussis and then came from two sets behind to beat Jonathan Stark sealing victory 119 in the fifth. 1998
1st roundv M Draper Rusedski's high hopes of success after a great 1997 were hit before Wimbledon after going over on his left ankle at Queen's. Two weeks later the fourth seed limped out at 46 62 54 down to Australia's Mark Draper. "I thought when it got warmed up it would get better. It didn't happen but there is always next year" he said.
1999
4th roundv M Philippoussis Rusedski sailed through the early rounds against Jason Stoltenberg Arvind Parmer and Magnus Norman without dropping a set. In a bigserving duel with Mark Philippoussis he continued that run by taking the first set but when Rusedski lost a second set tiebreak his challenge crumbled in the face of a barrage of aces 26 76 63 61.
2000
1st roundv V Spadea Rusedski just wanted to dig a hole and disappear after suffering an embarrassing firstday defeat to Vince Spadea. The American had lost a record 21 consecutive matches but turned the form book on its head with a fiveset win against the 14th seed. "It's a tough loss and I need some time away" Rusedski reflected.
2001
4th roundv G Ivanisevic "Deep down this year I thought I had a chance of winning" Rusedski said after losing to eventual champion Goran Ivanisevic. He reaped the reward of his remodelled game with wins over Andrei Pavel Byron Black and Juan Carlos Ferrero but was brutally exposed when he came up against Ivanisevic's grasscourt bombardment.
2002
4th roundv X Malisse Rusedski enjoyed his greatest Wimbledon win against Andy Roddick. ARod had no answer to the GForce with the home favourite winning through in straight sets 63 64 62 to open up the draw. But he failed to capitalise in the next round against Xavier Malisse. "I'm just going to have to come back a little bit stronger" he said.
2003
2nd roundv A Roddick A win over Alexander Waske set up a rematch with Andy Roddick but this time the Briton lost the match and his rag in a volley of abuse. After securing the game's first break of serve in the third set Rusedski held a 52 lead when he played to a call from the crowd. The umpire refused a let and Rusedski's fragile temperament cracked.
2004
2nd roundv R Schuettler Rusedski came into Wimbledon as the British number three his world ranking having tumbled down to 165. He received a rousing reception when he came out for his first Grand Slam match in a year dogged by drugs controversy but after beating Davide Sanguinetti he lost to eighth seed Rainer Schuettler.
