Warsaw Cup
Jelena Dokic fended off Miriam Casanova of Switzerland to go through to the quarter-final.
Fourth seed Dokic had to fight off set points from Casanova in both sets before prevailing 7-5 7-6.
In the 26-point tiebreaker, Casanova held four set points
before Dokic finally claimed victory on her
fourth match point.
"She returns well and puts pressure on you to get the
serve in, but I served well and won the big points,
especially in the tiebreaker," Dokic said.
"It was just a
matter of if she was going to miss or hit a winner. There
was nothing in between with her.
"Sometimes she would hit
four winners in a row I could do nothing about."
Russian 10th seed Tatiana Panova bowed out 6-2 6-1 to Czech
newcomer Sandra Kleinova in their first-round match.
World number three Venus Williams received a first-round bye and will play qualifier Zuzana Ondraskova of the Czech Republic in the second round on Thursday.
