London 2012 venue: Hyde Park
The triathlon at London 2012 would go past Buckingham Palace
Triathlon

The triathlon is one of those Olympic events that allows the hosts to show off a bit.

In 2000 it began beneath the backdrop of the Opera House with a swim through Sydney's shark-infested harbour.

So that is possibly why the London 2012 committee have plumped for the picturesque setting of Hyde Park.

The largest of London's Royal Parks would have a 3,000-seater temporary grandstand overlooking the finishing area, and competitors would begin the event with a swimming leg in the Serpentine.
