Sometimes referred to as the "two guard" or the "off guard", they are shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards.
They are the main shooter in the team but usually from long distance.
Shooting guards are often the best jump-shooting players in the game, and like nothing better than to bang in a three-pointer.
Many shooting guards can also play small forward, and those who switch between the two positions are called "swingmen".
