Chinese win women's doubles
China's Wang Nan and Zhang Yining
China's Wang Nan and partner Zhang Yining beat South Korea's Lee Eun-sil and Seok Eun-mi to take the women's table tennis doubles gold.

The Chinese duo won in straight sets 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 as Wang landed her third Olympic title.

The bronze was won by China's Guo Yue and Niu Jianfeng who beat South Korea's Kim Bok-rae and Kim Kyung-ah 4-3.

Meanwhile, China's Chen Qi and Ma Lin will face Hong Kong's Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching in the men's doubles final.

Chen and Ma beat unseeded Danish pair Michael Maze and Finn Tugwell in six sets in their semi-final.

And Ko and Li also needed six sets to overwhelm Russia's Dimitrij Mazunov and Alexei Smirnov.

China are still on target to win gold in every men's and women's event, as they did in the previous two Olympics.

However, top seeds Chen and Ma were made to fight against Maze and Tugwell, eventually winning 11-9, 10-12, 11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 13-11 on their fourth match point.

The other semi-final was equally tight, with third seeds Ko and Li defeating the Russians 11-5, 11-9, 5-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6.

Despite the Chinese victory, Tugwell said Chen and Ma were not as good as he expected them to be.

"They were not so frightening as I expected before the match. Maybe I expected them to be one level better," said Tugwell.

"It's possible to compete with (the Chinese) now. Before the tournament I expected them to be much stronger, to be more unbeatable."

The men's doubles final takes place on Saturday.
