Moran new Derry boss
Mickey Moran stepped down from Donegal job last September
Moran is back in a county hot seat at Derry

Hot favourite Mickey Moran has been confirmed as the new Derry football manager.

The Maghera man was given the thumbs-up following a meeting of the Derry Board on Monday evening.

Moran jumps back into the county scene following his resignation from the Donegal manager's post.

Moran stepped down following the All-Ireland quarter-final replay defeat by Dublin in September.

Controversial

Once he tossed his name into the hat, Moran was always the man likely to succeed Eamonn Coleman in attempt to lift Derry.

Moran previously took charge of his native Derry in late 1994 after Coleman's first reign had ended in controversial circumstances.

Moran led the county to the 1995 National Football League title, but his brief reign was affected by internal wrangles.
