Carlos Checa is heading into his sixth season with Yamaha, but the stakes have dramatically risen for him with the arrival of Valentino Rossi.
Checa, from Spain, has yet to emerge as a top-level contender in MotoGP.
That is all very well when little is expected in a struggling team, but a different matter when your team-mate is one of the greatest riders of all time.
Checa, who survived a huge accident at Donington Park in 1998, may find time is running out on him this season.
