Clarke has £2m major incentive
Darren Clarke
Darren Clarke practises for this year's US Masters
Darren Clarke is gambling on his ability to win a Major in the next 10 years.

The Northern Ireland golfer has agreed a sponsorship deal with sports manufacturers Donnay International which will net him £2m for every major that he wins.

But an absence of Major wins over the next 10 years will mean no cash from the deal for Clarke.

"Winning a major is not about the money but the bonus on offer from Donnay would certainly be the icing on the cake," said Clarke.

Clarke will wear the Donnay clothing brand over the next 10 years.

"Donnay are a famous and well respected sporting name and hopefully, in partnership with them, I can take the next big step to achieve a major victory.

Greg Rusedski: Similar deal

"This deal will take me through my 30s, which are often the most productive for a professional golfer, and into my early 40s.

"It is fantastic to have this kind of backing over such a long period of time," added Clarke.

Clarke's deal with Donnay is similar to the one the company already have in place with tennis player Greg Rusedski, who is seeking his first Grand Slam title.

The Northern Ireland golfer already has a deal with Dimension Data which will net him $1m if he wins four tournaments in 2001.

He has one win under his belt so far this season.

In the first two rounds of the Masters, Clarke will play alongside American Craig Stadler and Miguel Jiminez of Spain.
