Westwood puts family first
Lee Westwood will miss the Masters
Westwood hopes to be back at Augusta next year
European number one Lee Westwood has announced his withdrawal from the US Masters at Augusta.

Westwood's wife, Laurae, is due to give birth at any time and the 27-year-old has opted to stay in England so that he can be present to witness the arrival of his first child.

With the Masters beginning on Thursday and the baby due on Saturday, it would now be extremely difficult for Westwood to travel and prepare properly for the event.

"I am extremely disappointed to miss the Masters this week," said Westwood.

"I wanted to make sure I withdrew before the draw was made.

"However, all being well, I very much hope to be back in Augusta next year with my family."
