Alleyne: No disgrace in Lord's defeat
Gloucestershire's Kim Barnett is bowled by Ed Giddins
The loss of Kim Barnett was an early setback
Gloucestershire skipper Mark Alleyne admitted the loss of wickets at crucial times cost his side dear following their 47-run defeat by Surrey in the B&H Cup final.

It brought to an end a run of four successive wins in one-day finals at Lord's for the west country side.

Alleyne took three for 51 and made a useful 26 with the bat but the quality of Surrey's bowling attack, which featured five players with international experience, meant that the task of scoring 245 to win was beyond them.

"Surrey played well. We had a couple of chances in the game to nail it down a little bit, but Surrey pegged us back and took their chances well," he admitted.

"We've had a fairly good run - it started with Surrey a couple of years ago, and it's ended with Surrey. But I think four out of five times represents a fairly good run."

Alleyne said his side fancied their chances after bowling out Surrey for 244 - a "par score, maybe just below" in his opinion.

"We just lost wickets at the wrong time and with guys taking time to get in, we lost a little bit of momentum.

"We were right in there down to the end and the guys tried really hard. You can't knock that at all."

Having been knocked out of the C&G Trophy by Durham, Gloucestershire must now concentrate their attentions on improving their positions in the County Championship and Norwich Union League.

Alleyne added: "A couple of defeats this week won't dent our confidence. There's a long part of the season to go yet.

"We'll have a couple of days off and then straight back into it."
