South Africa took charge of the WGC-World Cup on Saturday thanks to inspired play from Rory Sabbatini and Trevor Immelman.
The pair combined to shoot a nine-under-par round of 63 at Kiawah Island to lead France and the USA by seven shots.
England and Scotland improved on their overnight situations to put themselves in contention for second place at four-under.
And Wales are only one stroke further back with three rounds out of four completed.
South Africa are big favourites to win the World Cup for the fifth time in the event's 50-year history, with Ernie Els and Retief Goosen winning the event in 2001.
Looking ahead to Sunday's final round, Sabattini admitted the pair would be taking a no-risk policy.
"I would take 18 pars right now and run," said Sabbatini.
"This is not an easy golf course.
"Everybody is trying to catch us and it's up to them to try and push and the more you do that on this course, the more it hits you back."
