Sorenstam sweeps to the top
Sweden's Annika Sorenstam
Sorenstam is chasing her eighth tournament of the year

World number one Annika Sorenstam showed her class with a second-round 69 to share the halfway lead at the US Women's Open.

The Swede was one of the few players to break par on the Prairie Hills course and is on one under along with American duo of Juli Inkster and Laura Diaz.

Sorenstam, the champion in 1995 and 96 has won on her last two outings and seven times in all this year.

She swept to the top of the leaderboard with three birdies in her final six holes although she bogeyed her final hole of the day.

"I'm happy, but I left a few out there," she said. "I was disappointed with my putting, but one under wasn't bad for a tough day.

"Still, I usually improve over the weekend."

Janice Moodie leads the British challenge with a 72 to move to three over for the tournament with Mhairi McKay another two shots back.

English pair Joanne Morley and Karen Stupples, who both shot second round 68s also make the cut alongside Laura Davies (eight over) and Catriona Matthew (nine over).

Pre-tournament favourite Karrie Webb will miss the final two rounds after missing the cut for the first time in 56 tournaments.

The Australian, who was bidding for a third US Open in a row followed up her first round 79 with a 73.
