Southport boss Liam Watson is delighted to have defender Chris Brass on board at Haig Avenue as he looks to steer his side away from relegation danger.
Ex-Burnley man Brass, 30, has joined Port on a month's loan from Conference rivals York City, and Watson believes he will provide vital experience.
"We have got a relatively young side and we needed a leader, which I think Chris is," Watson told BBC Sport.
"He's also a very good player and proven at this level."
Watson is also tipping on-loan Crewe defender Mark Roberts, 22, to have a big future in the game after gaining first-team experience with the Sandgrounders.
