Borough back Burr with cash

Nuneaton boss Steve Burr has been backed to bring in new players for his fight to keep Borough in the Nationwide Conference.

The Manor Park board met earlier this week to plot a survival plan before Burr held talks with chairman Roger Stanford.

Burr's intention to see the job through himself was endorsed by Stanford.

The Borough boss said: "I told the chairman if they wanted to make a decision that they felt was in the best interests of the club they had to do that.

There is money to bring in a couple of players and that's pleasing

Borough boss Steve Burr

"That wasn't the case and that pleased me.

"It gives me the time to turn things round and hopefully we can do that sooner rather than later."

Burr signed a new, long-term contract with Boro earlier this season and said: "We've got to do it together, that's the only way to get out of it.

"The whole club has got to pull together in the same direction.

"I know everybody wants us to stay in the Conference. That's the aim and that's what we're working hard to do," he added.

Boro have slumped to a position just one point and one place above the relegation zone thanks to a run of 10 league games without a win.

We have a lot of irons in the fire and I'm just waiting for clubs to get back

Steve Burr

Burr admits new signings will be the key to staying up and is scouring the market in a bid to strengthen his squad.

He said: "There is money to bring in a couple of players and that's pleasing.

"Obviously it's up to us now to find the right ones.

"We are now in a position to get a couple of players in.

"We have a lot of irons in the fire. I'm just waiting for clubs to get back to say if players are not in their plans and we can take them.

"There is room for a loan player and that's an area we will be looking at. Anybody else would be in a deal until the end of the season."
