Burnley 2-6 Rotherham
Rotherham toasted two former Clarets as Burnley were swept aside at Turf Moor.

Alan Lee and John Mullin returned to haunt Burnley manager Stan Ternent, two goals apiece paving the way for a victory.

Steve Davis became the third player to grab a brace, but his second-half strikes were little consolation for the hosts.

Darren Byfield continued the theme of twos with a late double as Rotherham confirmed their status of the most prolific travelling side in the First Division.

There was double the reason to celebrate for Mullin, who not only helped inflict a fourth home league defeat on his former employers, but netted for the first time this season.

The prospect of another drab stalemate after a goalless draw between the two sides at Millmoor earlier in the season was banished within 12 minutes, Lee meeting Mullin's corner with a firm downward header.

A deserved second goal arrived after 27 minutes, Mullin completing a smart move on the left side of the penalty area in which Paul Hurst was particularly influential.

Mullin left Burnley with a mountain to climb courtesy of another wonderful strike on the half-hour.

There seemed little danger when he collected the ball 25 yards from goal, but a powerful right-footed drive left Beresford grasping at thin air once more.

Rotherham went close to a fourth within a minute of the second half after Ternent had thrown on Alan Moore and Dimitrios Papadopoulos for Ian Cox and Paul Cook.

Lee's drive was held by Beresford but, although Burnley responded through Moore and Lee Briscoe, their fate was sealed when Lee converted Monkhouse's cross from the left.

Burnley salvaged some pride through captain Davis, who found the top corner of Pollitt's goal from the edge of the penalty area after being teed up by Blake, and tapped in a close-range second 12 minutes from time.

Byfield provided the reality check, flashing a left-footed shot past Beresford from 18 yards before capping a marvellous Rotherham performance by meeting Daws' cross in the dying moments.

Burnley: Beresford, West, Davis, Cox, Branch, Little, Weller, Cook, Briscoe, Taylor, Blake. Subs: Grant, Ian Moore, Maylett, Alan Moore, Papadopoulos.

Rotherham: Pollitt, Scott, Swailes, McIntosh, Hurst, Sedgwick, Mullin, Daws, Monkhouse, Richard Barker, Lee. Subs: Gray, Byfield, Talbot, Warne, Bryan.
