Despite the mayhem of a will-he-won't-he day for Charlie Adam, the Scottish midfielder has moved to assuage any fears he will react badly to his failed moves to Liverpool and then Tottenham, saying: "It's been a crazy day. I'm still a Blackpool player and I want the Blackpool fans to know I'm totally committed to playing the best I can for the club, and I will do my best to help us achieve the highest possible league finish."

2345: Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Tottenham did make a bid - that was accepted - for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam late in the day, but that the deal fell through because "a couple of Blackpool shareholders" just failed to get the necessary signatures on the paperwork in time. So near. So far. So Tottenham.

2342: BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson on Fernando Torres's move to Chelsea: "There is no doubt that Torres is a very, very good player and it will be interesting to see how Chelsea use him. Pairing him with Didier Drogba might work but Drogba has not exactly set the world on fire this season. I've got the feeling that the arrival of Torres might mean his time at Stamford Bridge is almost up. He is one of quite a few Chelsea players who look like they might be in their last season with the club and he is at the age now where he might be thinking about making one final big-money move himself."

2335: Just to confirm, then, that the completion of Fernando Torres and David Luiz to Chelsea, plus the arrival at Liverpool of Andy Carroll, take this window's transfer spending to something like £214m. Compared to £29m this time last year. Staggering.

2329: DONE DEAL Rangers have announced the signing of El Hadji Diouf from Blackburn after finalising a loan deal in the final stages of the transfer window.

2326: Fernando Torres, by the way, has confirmed on his website he has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract at Chelsea.

2324: DONE DEAL And now Benfica have released a statement to the stock exchange confirming the sale of David Luiz to Chelsea for a fee of around £21m plus Nemanja Matic.

2321: DONE DEAL Liverpool have confirmed that Fernando Torres is now a Chelsea player after the Merseysiders accepted a British transfer record fee for the Spanish international. That fee is thought to be £50m. Big.

2309: DONE DEAL Wigan have confirmed the signing of striker Conor Sammon on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Kilmarnock.

2308: DONE DEAL Blackpool have confirmed the signing of Sergei Kornilenko on loan from Zenit St Petersburg until the end of the season.

2305: Andy Carroll will wear the number 9 shirt at Liverpool.

2255: And with reports flying around that the Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll deals have been completed - I'll bring you the official word when I get it, of course - here is why you should stick with me for the foreseeable future... anyone remember the bonkers days of 1 September 2008? We waited until long into the hours (and after the deadline passed) before finding out Robinho (£32.5m), Berbatov (£30.75m) and, erm, Xisco (undisclosed) signed on a day that also saw Fellaini (£15m), Pavlyuchenko (£14m) and Corluka (£8.5m) moving. Exactly. There's still time for all manner of nonsense people!

2250: A reminder, too, that just because transfers are not officially announced before 2300 GMT does not mean they have not been completed in time. And I'll be staying with you until all the big deals are confirmed... hopefully.

2245: With the minutes ticking down, still we await official word on the three monster transfers of the day - Fernando Torres and David Luiz to Chelsea, and Andy Carroll to Liverpool. 2207: DONE DEAL Everton have confirmed the signing of Greek teenager Apostolos Vellios. The 19-year-old striker has joined from Greek side Iraklis Thessaloniki for a nominal fee.

2157: Not so much transfer news, but thought I'd throw it in because he's got fantastic locks... Robbie Savage has announced on his twitter tonight that he will be retiring from football at the end of the season. Rumours that he is taking over as Andy Carroll's hair stylist are - as yet - unconfirmed.

The deal is a "club record" for Stevenage - but undisclosed - includes strike duo Charlie Griffin and Yemi Obubade going in the opposite direction."

2150: Oh, and as expected (see 2037) Everton have officially rejected Tottenham's late bid for Phil Neville. That's the Londoners' business for this window done and dusted, barring a rabbit in the hat from Harry or Danny.

2148: The Fernando Torres-Chelsea saga looks to be drawing to a close - Blues chairman Bruce Buck has just arrived at Stamford Bridge.

2115: Blackpool have been busy, busy bees today - and BBC Sport has learnt that they have now agreed a deal to sign winger/forward Jason Puncheon from Southampton.

2110: Big news for Bolton, that, though it's confused the club's website editor by the look of things - news of Daniel Sturridge's arrival is accompanied by a big picture of... Danny Welbeck. Oops.

2108: DONE DEAL We brought you the possibility of this back around midday, and I can confirm Daniel Sturridge has now left Chelsea for Bolton on loan until the end of the season.

2055: As we approach the last two hours of the transfer window, I can tell you English clubs have already broken the £100m barrier for transfer fees spent this month - and that's before the mooted deals for Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll and David Luiz are taken into consideration. Unbelievable. By way of comparison - just £29m was spent by English clubs this time last year. I repeat what I said at 1830... English football has gone absolutely mad.

2053: DONE DEAL Reading have confirmed the double signing of Canada's under-20s captain Ethan Gage and American youngster Erik Opsahl.

2046: ...worry no more, Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Luis Suarez on a five-and-a-half-year deal from Ajax for a fee of £23m. The Uruguayan, 24, will wear the no.7 shirt.

2044: DONE DEAL Leicester City confirm the deadline day signing of former Portuguese international goalkeeper Ricardo on a short-term contract until the end of the season, subject to an International Transfer Certificate.

2040: DONE DEAL Up in Scotland, we are hearing that Rangers have signed El Hadji Diouf from Blackburn and defender Kyle Bartley on loan from Arsenal. Aberdeen, meanwhile, have signed former Rangers defender Steven Smith on loan until the end of the season, the 25-year-old making the switch from Norwich, but striker Andrius Velicka and defender Jerel Ifil are to leave the Pittodrie club.

2037: To be fair, that was a pretty emphatic response from Redknapp, it doesn't look like we're getting anything dramatic from Tottenham tonight. He did say the club bid for Everton full-back Phil Neville, but we've already heard from the Toffees boss that that one isn't happening, so that's that. It just doesn't feel like Deadline Day anymore does it?

2035: Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp on Sky Sports News says there is "no chance" of the club signing a striker tonight, nor any chance of Peter Crouch leaving for Newcastle as Andy Carroll's replacement. "We were never desperate," he adds. Expect three arrivals to Spurs and the sale of the big man within the hour, then. Joke. Obviously.

2029: Blackburn have confirmed the signing of Argentinian midfielder Mauro Formica on a deal until the summer of 2014.

2026: Right then... worrying developments for Chelsea fans, if what worries you is completely speculative chat on social networking sites... word on the Tweet is that Benfica have "pulled David Luiz off the plane to London" and say they are "analysing" Chelsea's offer for the centre-half. I reiterate, that's unconfirmed as far as I know.

2023: DONE DEAL Bristol City sign Scunthorpe's 25-year-old winger Martyn Woolford for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half year deal.

1959: DONE DEAL Another one for the Championship, folks, as Crystal Palace confirm they have signed Derby County defender Dean Moxey for an undisclosed fee.

1955: I was speaking to a football agent last week, and he told me that if clubs wanted to wrap up deals in time to beat the 2300 GMT deadline for transfers, they really needed to have the player undergoing a medical by 2000 GMT so as to get the assessment done and dusted in time to get the required forms off to the Premier League. Consider this your five minute warning people.

1939: Sky Sports News has just shown footage of Avram Grant chatting outside the West Ham training ground - and the Hammers boss says the east Londoners could still add "maybe one" more player to the squad before the close of the transfer window. Carlton Cole, however, is staying put, he says, despite links to Newcastle.

1937: Liverpool confirm they have agreed a fee with Chelsea for Fernando Torres, who has been given permission to speak to the London club.

1936: DONE DEAL James Beattie has passed a medical, agreed personal terms and therefore completed his loan move from Rangers to Blackpool until the end of the season.

He has been out injured for a while too so they will need to get clarification that has cleared up. But he is clearly going to be some player and is a real handful. He fits the criteria for signings by Liverpool's owners which is that players must be young and able to improve, and his potential partnership with Luis Suarez, who is on the brink of joining the Reds, is one that should offer a lot now and in the future too."

1931: Alan Shearer on Andy Carroll on BBC Five Live: "Off the field he has been in trouble once or twice before - that would be the major area of concern for me. I spoke to Kenny months ago before he even came to Liverpool about the potential of Carroll. Kenny got myself and Chris Sutton and myself and Mike Newell together at Blackburn and he probably sees Carroll and Suarez as a similar partnership - both can score goals. Andy Carroll is unplayable on his day. 1927: Right - my quick straw poll of how much you would pay for Andy Carroll suggests an average (that I have pretty much guesstimated because I don't have time to calculate an accurate mean from hundreds of texts) of around... £12m. Sounds fair to me. But this, it would appear, is very much a seller's market, people. I wonder what Newcastle legend Alan Shearer makes of it? Funnily enough...

1916: DONE DEAL Hamilton have signed striker 20-year-old Tom Elliott on a free transfer from Leeds United until the end of the season.

BBC Radio 5 live's Mike Sewell: "Despite the David Luiz deal being back on, it doesn't look like Chelsea's Jeffrey Bruma will be going out on loan to West Brom. Bruma's agent earlier said it was a possibility if Chelsea got Luiz. However, regardless of that I understand Bruma to the Baggies won't happen."

1911: Mandeep Sanghera reports: "With all the late transfer action, how much leeway is there on the 2300 GMT deadline for transfers? Basically, NONE. I've been informed that if the relevant paperwork isn't in by the designated time a deal is not going to happen. Some deals can take a while to be confirmed as the relevant information needs to be processed and a delay can sometimes be caused by details missing. And here's a snippet from BBC Radio Sheffield too. Sheffield Wednesday are set to sign 28-year-old midfielder Lee Cook from QPR.

1815: A little bit more info has emerged on the ongoing Andy Carroll to Liverpool saga... Carroll submitted a transfer request this afternoon which Newcastle "reluctantly accepted" according to a statement on their website. Liverpool, as we knew, have since agreed a fee with the Magpies for Carroll, who is still en-route to Merseyside where he will discuss personal terms and take a medical.

1812: Here's something worth bearing in mind if and when Liverpool and Blackpool agree a fee for Charlie Adam tonight. Rangers receive 10% of any fee and Seasiders boss Ian Holloway also gets a cut too. That still leaves the club with most of the money but takes a bit of the edge off any potential windfall for Blackpool fans, although they would undoubtedly prefer Adam to stay anyway.

BBC Radio 5 live's Mike Sewell: "Following on from what Chris McLaughlin was saying (below) about Kelvin Wilson. Forest have told me he'll definitely be staying. They expect him to see out the remainder of his contract before moving to Celtic in the summer."

1755: Just over five hours to go until the transfer window slams shut and it's not just the big guns who are trying to wrap up deals. Huddersfield Town are interested in 24-year-old Yeovil striker Dean Bowditch and trying to do some business this evening.

The Northern League side have sold John Campbell to Darlington for an undisclosed fee and the 22-year-old has signed an 18-month deal with the Blue Square Bet Premier side.

1739: Lots of Liverpool news for you at the moment. Derby have revealed they will not be signing Reds defender Daniel Ayala on loan today because of a hamstring injury, but they hope to bring the 20-year-old in on loan next month.

1737: About 10m people went rushing to check the official Liverpool website after that announcement at 1726... and have crashed it completely by the looks of things. We await confirmation of the fee, but Liverpool say it is a club record.

1721: DONE DEAL: We knew about this one earlier, and now it is confirmed. Stoke striker Tuncay has joined Wolfsburg on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

1720: More news of a player not going anywhere, for now anyway. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce admits Black Cats midfielder Jordan Henderson could be on his way...but not for a few seasons yet. "All of the big managers all around the country have asked to be kept informed if we ever decide to sell," said Bruce. "There will come a time undoubtedly when he'll want to go and play in the Champions League and want to win Champions League trophies and further his England career. But I think, for the next couple of years at least, this is the place for him to learn his trade."

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has told BBC Scotland that the proposed switch of 32-year-old defender/midfielder Abdoulaye Faye to Celtic is off.

1708: A striker HAS left Newcastle today. But not THAT one, yet. According to BBC Newcastle, 24-year-old Spanish striker Xisco has re-signed for Deportivo La Coruna on loan.

1704: Yep, the BBC has just had confirmation that Newcastle did reject Liverpool's second bid of £35m for Andy Carroll. BUT we understand that will not be the end of the matter... If and when a third bid is made, we will let you know. Carroll is apparently keen on the move, remember.

A twist in the Andy Carroll saga - and it's a biggie - despite reports earlier that Newcastle had accepted a Liverpool bid for the 22-year-old striker (see 1513), it seems they actually rejected the Reds' second offer too. Just SIX HOURS of the transfer window left for the two clubs to work that one out - and how much does it rely on Fernando Torres completing his move to Chelsea too. We will find out, soon enough...

1644 DONE DEAL: It's a Liverpool signing, but not the one we are all waiting for. The Reds have signed 17-year-old midfielder Conor Thomas from Coventry on loan until the end of the season. He made his Sky Blues debut in Saturday's defeat by Birmingham City.

1643: Right, lots going on at the moment. According to BBC Radio Sheffield, Rotherham have rejected a bid for Adam Le Fondre from Huddersfield. And BBC Radio Humberside say Hull City chasing Fulham's Jonathan Greening and Crystal Palace's Neil Danns.

1642: At long last, I can give you an update on Fernando Torres' switch to Chelsea. Well, an explanation on why it hasn't progressed for the last few hours. BBC Sport understands that the delay with the deal is down to a hitch in negotiations about the mechanics of his Stamford Bridge contract, concerning image rights etc.

1638: Ah. I'm told there is no truth in the 'Charlie Adam to Man Utd' rumours. Apparently, Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston is refusing to answer calls from Liverpool about the Scotland midfielder... maybe that United story started when Kenny Dalglish phoned up pretending to be Sir Alex Ferguson instead?

1632: BBC Radio Sheffield are reporting that 19-year-old West Ham striker Frank Nouble has joined Barnsley until the end of the season.

1630: DONE DEAL: Hull City have signed 19-year-old Manchester United striker Cameron Stewart for an undisclosed fee following a successful loan spell.

1626: BBC Bristol tell me that Scunthorpe midfielder Martyn Woolford is currently en route (by helicopter?) to Ashton Gate to complete a move to Bristol City. The clubs have agreed a deal for the 25-year-old and he is due to have a medical this evening.

1624: While we wait for more developments on the two strikers apparently leaving and arriving at Anfield for £50m and £35m respectively, let's compare Reds (and possibly soon to be Chelsea) frontman Fernando Torres and his apparent replacement, Newcastle's Andy Carroll. According to Opta, in the Premier League this season, Carroll has more goals than Torres (11 to nine), more assists (three to two) and the time lapse between goals is less (148 mins per goal compared to 211 mins per goal). The Newcastle striker's shooting accuracy is worse than Torres however, with 43% of his shots hitting the target compared to the Spaniard's 52%.

1619: Interesting, very interesting. Apparently the odds on Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam joining Manchester United have plummeted in the last few minutes. He is now 1/4 to go there and only 5/2 to join long-term suitors Liverpool. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said last week of course that Adam is "worth £10m for his corners alone". Watch this space.

1615: DONE DEAL: Birmingham have confirmed the signing of 26-year-old Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins on a six-month loan from Rubin Kazan.

1614: DONE DEALS Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of US international striker Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of US international striker Robbie Findley, 25, on a free transfer from Real Salt Lake after securing his visa. And Blue Square Bet Premier side Grimsby Town have signed former Birmingham midfielder Bryan Hughes, 34, until the end of the season.

1613: There appears to be some confusion about what time the transfer window shuts in Scotland. Just to clarify: it is 2300 GMT for Scottish Premier League clubs and midnight for those in the Scottish Football League. I have absolutely no idea why.

1610: Remember Freddy Adu? Of course you do. There was a time that he was a teen sensation thought likely to be fetching a fee of £30m one deadline day. It didn't quite work out like that, though, did it? Now 21, he has just been loaned out by Benfica to Turkish club Rizespor until the end of the season, following a series of spectacularly unsuccessful similar moves.

1604: Everton fans, are you feeling left out while all this transfer business (or transfer madness) is going on? Don't be. David Moyes is set to seal the signing of 19-year-old striker Apostolos Vellios from Iraklis today. The Greek club confirmed on their website late last week that they had reached agreement with Everton and Moyes added: "We are hoping we can bring in a young player from Greece."

1559: Seb Larsson has got a bit of competition for his place at Birmingham following the arrival of David Bentley on loan from Spurs, but the Swede would be almost guaranteed a starting place in the Carling Cup final at the end of February if he stays put. That's because Bentley is cup-tied.

1558: Hmmmm. Following Tottenham's non-bid for Diego Forlan earlier, here's another move that might not be happening. Apparently Birmingham City have received NO offer from Manchester City for winger Seb Larsson (see 1320). The St Andrew's side says the only concrete bids for the Sweden international have come from Aston Villa and Newcastle. Those deals broke down because of a failure to agree personal terms.

1554: DONE DEAL: Er, safe to say this is not the big one you are waiting for Chelsea fans. Blues reserve team midfielder Jacob Mellis, 20, has left Stamford Bridge to join Barnsley on loan.

1552: DONE DEAL: Yep, as reported below, Bristol City have completed the loan signing of Wolves striker Andy Keogh. He moves to Ashton Gate for three months.

1549: Grrrr. I'm getting a tad impatient here. Just over seven hours of the transfer window remaining and we are still waiting for the BIG deals of the day to take place. Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam... and no doubt a surprise or two too (Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, I'm looking at you here).

1545: Bristol's Evening Post is reporting Bristol City have completed the signing of Wolves striker Andy Keogh. The 24-year-old joins the Robins on a 93-day loan with a view to a permanent deal if he impresses in the season's last remaining games.

1544: Hmmm. Still no word on how Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland's medical at Newcastle is going/has gone. Perhaps a broken wing has held things up? (If you can't click on that link then I recommend you try to check out Ireland's extraordinary tattoo elsewhere as soon as you can).

1536: Some deals in League One and the Blue Square Premier to tell you about: Firstly, Carlisle have signed Patrick Madden from Bohemians for an undisclosed fee. The 20-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal at Brunton Park. And Bath City have signed former Cardiff and Wales Under-21 international Jonathan Brown on a free transfer.

1534: Right then. Another development in the Andy Carroll saga. BBC Sport understands that the Newcastle striker is keen on his proposed move to Anfield. That follows Liverpool meeting the Magpies' valuation for the big frontman.

1529: A few reports came in earlier from Spain about Spurs boss Harry Redknapp being in for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan (at 1320 and 1435 for starters)... but BBC Sport understands this is NOT the case. No bid has been made, so Harry's search for a striker is obviously going on elsewhere.

PNE Chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "Andy Lonergan was coveted by Cardiff but they didn't value him very highly. Even so, we probably wouldn't have sold him."

1515: No more news on Fernando Torres, though. He is in London, or Liverpool, depending on who you believe...

1513: The Guardian and Telegraph are both reporting that Liverpool have met Newcastle's valuation for striker Andy Carroll.

1511: Yep, Andy Reid is off to Bloomfield Road, ending an up-and-down three-year spell at the Stadium of Light (he joined from Charlton on transfer deadline day in January 2008). That doesn't mean the Black Cats will be in for anyone else, though, because their boss Steve Bruce has just said: "I don't think we'll be bringing anyone else in."

1505: DONE DEAL: Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid has joined Blackpool for an undisclosed fee. A replacement for Charlie Adam then?

1501: DONE DEAL Forget Stamford Bridge, it's all happening at Sincil Bank at the monment. Following their extension of Gavin Hoyte's loan deal earlier, BBC Lincolnshire reports that the Imps have signed striker Scott Spencer on a free transfer until the end of the season following his departure from Southend last week, and they have also snapped up ex-Millwall man Ali Fuseini, who has signed until 2012. Fuseini had recently been playing for Lewes in the Blue Square South.

Mandeep Sanghera reports: "Wigan say no bids for Charles N'Zogbia, Hugo Rodallega or any of their players. There may be one arrival for the Latics, while Daniel de Ridder could be leaving them."

Alistair Magowan reports: "Looks like Gareth Bale will have to square up to Phil Neville again next season. Stories of the Everton defender moving to Spurs are wide of the mark. David Moyes says they have received no bids for him. Still a few hours left though."

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty on Twitter: "Barcelona's young striker Ruben Rochina expected to complete his a move to Blackburn later today."

1441: DONE DEAL: Marouane Zemmama has joined Middlesbrough from Hibernian on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old Moroccan midfielder had been at Easter Road since his arrival at Raja Casablanca in 2006 and would have been a free agent in the summer.

1435: Reports in Spain suggest that Harry Redknapp has made a renewed bid for Sergio Aguero's Atletico Madrid strike partner, Diego Forlan, whom the Tottenham manager watched two weeks ago in the Madrid derby. Looks like Harry is determined to snap up a striker today, then?

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague on Twitter: "Torres is not flying to London. Still in Liverpool. Still negotiating... no deal yet."

1430: More interesting developments at Newcastle. If you remember (at 1151), they delayed Alan Pardew's pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's trip to Fulham and switched it from the club's training headquarters to St James' Park. Now they have cancelled it all together. Unless you have had your head buried in sand for the last few hours, you will know that Liverpool had a £30m offer for Magpies striker Andy Carroll rejected earlier on today... and it would appear Mr Pardew doesn't want to talk publically about it, yet...

Highly-rated Seagulls midfielder Elliott Bennett was at training today and Albion say they hope to keep their squad status quo. Bennett, 22, has been the subject of bids from Norwich City and he put in transfer request last Thursday.

1359: Celtic boss Neil Lennon has admitted his interest in Abdoulaye Faye but denied the Stoke defender was preparing to sign. Celtic are short at the back following a series of injuries, but Lennon said: "I don't think [Faye] is in Glasgow. He is a name that we have been linked with along with a lot of other names. He is one that does interest us but I have nothing to say on it. We are looking to add to the strikers roster as well but it is difficult and it is very late in the month."

1358: This is more like it. Some actual news of some actual transfers. Well, one deal and one soon-to-be-completed deal. BBC Bristol report that Andy Keogh is joining Bristol City from Wolves on loan for three months, as soon as his loan agreement at Cardiff is cancelled. The Robins have also agreed a deal with Scunthorpe for Martin Woolford.

1323: One man who will not be on the move today is Sergio Aguero. He has signed a contract extension at Atletico Madrid. "I'm staying here because I want to," said Aguero in one of the great quotes of the morning sporting age.

1320: Sources in Spain are reporting that Tottenham have made a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan. Redknapp recently watched him at at the Vicente Calderon. He was mugged on the trip.

Alistair Magowan reports: "Sources say there is interest from Blackpool in signing Sunderland's Andy Reid, but any move for the 28-year-old would hinge on whether Charlie Adam moves to Liverpool. The Black Cats captured Sulley Muntari and Stephane Sessegnon over the weekend."

1311: Stoke striker Tuncay has confirmed that he is in talk with Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg over a move to the German club.

1306: An anti-transfer, of sorts. Oxford United's deal for winger Jennison Myrie-Williams has collapsed because of Fifa regulations. The U's signed the 22-year-old last week but because he has already played for two clubs this season (St Johnstone and Dundee United), the deal has been prohibited.

1304: Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has revealed US midfielder Michael Bradley is undergoing a medical ahead of a proposed loan deal from Borussia Monchengladbach, with a view to a permanent move. Houllier has also confirmed midfielder Stephen Ireland is likely to join Newcastle on loan. But one player who will not he leaving is Ashley Young, who has been linked with a switch to Liverpool. Houllier said: "I can confirm that Ashley is a highly-rated player and highly liked by everyone at Aston Villa. No way is he going to leave."

1300: THE HOURS ARE TICKING DOWN - 10 left in England and 11 in Scotland. There is a blockage in the transfer system at the moment - and it is at Anfield. Torres, Carroll, Adam and loads and loads of others - one big move and the cascade effect will surely start.

1257: Don't think that TDD has not hit the radar of BBC Comedy. That would be foolish in the extreme. One of their blogs looks at the prospect of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona for Blackburn, another muses on Darren Bent signing for Lincoln. Check them out.

1252: One name worth mentioning is Dmitri Payet. The St Etienne midfielder is being very strongly linked with Chelsea, although Paris St Germain are also thought to want to sign him. He is a 23-year-old France international who has been at his current club since 2007.

1248: Sifting through the mountain of texts, 606s and tweets that have flooded in through the day it is amazing how much love there is out there for transfer deadline day. Of course, some fans won't be feeling so chipper in a few hours.

1233: The Northern Echo newspaper is reporting that Middlesbrough striker Leroy Lita could be on his way to Championship leaders QPR. The paper suggests Rangers value the 26-year-old - scorer of six goals this season - at £2m but Boro are holding out for £3m.

1231: Just a quick thought on domestic transfers. If a player is signed or sold from/to a foreign club then it does not count as a domestic transfer.

Basso, who has been a free agent since leaving Bristol City last March, will provide cover for Wayne Hennessey, Marcus Hahnemann and Aaron McCarey after Carl Ikeme was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

1210: Hibernian are attempting to sign Sheffield United striker Daniel Bogdanovic on loan until the end of the season. The Maltese international has scored three goals in 18 appearances this season. The 31-year-old has only been a United player since last June when he joined them on a free transfer from Barnsley.

1205: No doubt about the biggest drama so far today, Liverpool's failed £30m bid for Andy Carroll. The domestic transfer record is the £30m that Manchester United paid Leeds for Rio Feridnand in 2002. Will that record stand at the end of today?

1153: The latest on Arsenal? There isn't any. Manager Arsene Wenger said this morning that the suspension to Sebastien Squillaci will not force him to enter the transfer market.

1151: Intriguing developments at Newcastle. Manager Alan Pardew was due to hold his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's trip to Fulham at the club's training headquarters at 1400 GMT. This has now been put back to 1530 GMT and will take place at St James' Park. Make of that what you will.

1148: DONE DEAL: Nottingham Forest striker Joe Garner has joined Championship strugglers Scunthorpe on loan for the rest of the season. He was on loan at Huddersfield for the first half of the campaign.

1147:BBC Radio 5 live's Mike Sewell reports: Shaun Wright-Phillips is expected to stay at Manchester City unless a permanent deal can be done. The injury to Adam Johnson wouldn't stop SWP from being sold. City are understood to only be interested in doing a deal which ends in a permanent transfer. West Ham, Fulham and Bolton have all enquired about loans until the end of the season. On the subject of Johnson's injury, I'm told City could bring in extra cover but no big name expected.

1104: Confusing this, isn't it. The landscape changes so fast. BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter Ian Dennis has just tweeted that Liverpool have made a £30m offer for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll. Bosh.

I've just been told that Ayala is at Derby and, having been injured, will be checked over by the club before all the paperwork is completed. The club do not expect him to play on Tuesday as he has not yet trained with them but could make his debut on Saturday.

1055: West Brom striker Roman Bednar will not be joining Bristol City. The 27-year-old was rumoured to be joining the Robins on loan for the rest of the season but boss Keith Millen said: "Roman Bednar will not be joining us before the transfer window closes."

Nope, he is required to solve the club's defensive crisis after Michael Dawson's red card at Fulham will see him miss the next three games. Younes Kaboul, William Gallas and Ledley King are struggling with injury and Redknapp said: "Jonathan Woodgate is going to be pushed into action quicker than expected. There is no chance of Jonathan going out on loan now. He is staying."

1036: Whatever happens with regard to Fernando Torres, Football Focus presenter Dan Walker is reporting that he has been told by a good source that Newcastle striker Andy Carroll will not be moving to Anfield.

Chris Bevan: reports: "Lots of rumours surrounding possible Man City bids for wingers (Hulk, Matt Jarvis and Santi Cazorla to name but three) today following Adam Johnson's injury, but I'm told the chances of Roberto Mancini making a late splash in the transfer market are "hugely slim". In terms of players leaving Eastlands, Shaun Wright-Phillips was linked with Bolton and Fulham before Johnson was sidelined but City have not received any bids for him yet anyway.

0720: A couple of snippets to bring you straight up to date about. An ankle injury to Manchester City's Adam Johnson could scupper Shaun Wright-Phillips' hopes of leaving the club. Wright-Phillips put in a transfer request over the weekend. And BBC Stoke's Phil Cartwright tells us that Cameron Jerome could still leave Birmingham for Stoke. That deal hinges on whether Blues sign Obafemi Martins on loan from Rubin Kazan. Ricardo Fuller could be used in a makeweight in the Jerome deal. Potters boss Tony Pulis confirmed after Sunday's win at Wolves that he has had bids from Sunderland for Fuller and from German side Wolfsburg for Tuncay.

0712: Is the transfer window actually a good idea? This debate spans numerous levels but League Managers' Association chief Richard Bevan has constructed a very strong argument that it actually leads to managers losing their jobs.
