Whether or not Rafael van der Vaart's move to Tottenham has gone through in time, I'm afraid, remains a mystery, and with no-one at the club available for comment for the past few hours we've decided to call this commentary done. Stay across the website and my Twitter to see if the Dutchman's arrival is confirmed later this evening - and indeed if Lars Jacobsen's arrival at West Ham from Blackburn is announced. It's hardly been a barnstormer of a deadline day, but a handful of top-drawer signings, a vatful of rumours, a BBC evacuation and all your first-class chat made it so much more interesting than we could realistically have hoped for. 2015: I can exclusively reveal... the Tottenham media staff are still not answering their phones. Given we had planned to wrap this commentary bad boy up at around 1900 BST, I'm starting to wonder how long I should continue. It might be worth sticking around just in case Rafael van der Vaart is presented this evening, though… especially if his missus is in tow. Even if VdV is rubbish, she'll brighten up White Hart Lane on a matchday and no mistake.

1830: And on a mixed day for Sunderland fans, Steve Bruce has confirmed that striker Fraizer Campbell has ruptured his cruciate ligaments and will be out of action for six months. On the club's signing of Asamoah Gyan, however, he added: "It's a fantastic signing for us. It's a hell of a lot of money in today's climate but the owner understood the necessity and we've managed to bring in another top class striker. We're making huge strides. I tried to sign him last summer but it wasn't possible."

1828: DONE DEAL: The Irish Football Association has confirmed 19-year-old Cliftonville and Northern Ireland under-21 striker Liam Boyce has completed a move to Werder Bremen - Tottenham's opponents in the Champions League group stages, of course, for an undisclosed fee. 1757: DONE DEAL: West Brom have signed Rochdale centre-back Craig Dawson for an undisclosed fee and immediately loaned him back to the League One side for the season.

1745: DONE DEAL: Sunderland have - with a full 15 minutes to spare - signed Asamoah Gyan for a fee in excess of £13m. The Ghanaian striker has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal, apparently. Sighs of relief all round the Stadium of Light.

1744: It really is all about Stoke today isn't it? According to the boys over at Sky Sports News, Potters boss Tony Pulis has made a last-ditch audacious approach to sign former Arsenal, Birmingham and Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant from Real Zaragoza. Crikey.

1735: DONE DEAL: Charlton have re-signed their former defender Jonathan Fortune. The centre-half, who made 195 appearances in eight years for the Addicks, was a free agent after leaving Sheffield United in the summer and has put pen to paper on a deal until Christmas.

1729: DONE DEAL: And in other full-backs-leaving-these-shores news, Juventus have signed Arsenal's Armand Traore on loan for a season. He had been linked strongly to Birmingham before opting for Turin instead.

1540: As it stands, by the way, we're looking at a four-year low total spend among Premier League clubs in a transfer window. Right now, transfers this summer have totalled around £320m - thanks in the main to Manchester City's £126m outlay - compared to £450m last year and the staggering £500m that was splashed out in 2008. We're going to need a spending spree of mammoth proportions to come near that, obviously... any clubs fancy a Lear Jet or two?

1507: DONE DEAL: Paul Konchesky has completed his move to Liverpool, signing a four-year deal with the Premier League club. Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic have moved in the other direction, joining Fulham.

1506: Done deals are now flooding in..... Wait for it.

1506: BBC Radio Stoke understands that the Potters have made a bid for Wigan midfielder Charles N'Zogbia and have enquired about Liverpool's Lucas Leiva. That's on top of their interest in Eidur Gudjohnsen and Marc Wilson.

1502: Brighton boss Gus Poyet has told BBC Sussex that he is hoping to sign three players, including a striker. And that is on top of the imminent arrival of Newcastle winger Kazanga LuaLua on loan until January.

1500: DONE DEAL: Bolton have signed forward Rodrigo Moreno from Benfica on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.

BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury reports: "Rennes have yet to hear from their Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan, who has been in talks with Sunderland. They said that if he does not join Sunderland then he will stay at the French club."

1442: Time for a brief recap on all the big deals that have gone through so far today. Schalke have completed the £10.5m signing of Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from AC Milan, while French striker David Trezeguet has ended a 10-year association with Juventus to join newly-promoted Spanish side Hercules. Gylfi Sigurdsson, 20, has left Reading for German side Hoffenheim for a tasty (reportedly) £6m. Leeds have signed Honduras forward Ramon Nunez on a permanent deal, Croatian keeper Stipe Pletikosa has joined Spurs from Spartak Moscow on a season-long loan, while midfielder Salif Diao has returned to Stoke after signing a new two-year contract.

1436: Plenty of chat flying about web world that Carlisle veteran defender Ian Harte is on his way to Reading. That would be hartebreaking for the Cumbrians. That - and any other prospective deal - will have to get a wriggle on as the window shuts in just over three hours.

1425: Now come on, the tweet I have just received telling me that someone's uncle has just moored Wesley Sneijder's boat in Grimsby dock is, frankly, ludicrous. 1418: Tranmere have gone loan mad. Coventry defender Jermaine Grandison and Derby County midfielder Arnaud Mendy, both 19, arrive on the Wirral for a month.

1414: DONE DEAL: Japan midfielder Yuki Abe has joined Leicester City from Urawa Red Diamonds. The 28-year-old has been capped 49 times by Japan and his switch came after he was granted a work permit.

BBC Sport's Sam Sheringham reports: "The Owen Coyle revolution continues apace at Bolton. I understand that the club are hopeful of tying up the signing of Spanish striker Rodrigo Moreno from Benfica this afternoon. The 19-year-old joined the Portuguese club from Real Madrid and has played for Spain at under-19 level."

1409: Plymouth have signed Stephane Zubar on a monthly rolling contract while they await international clearance.

1405: On the subject of rumours - and that is what we are dealing at the top level at the moment - what about Liverpool signing Fernando Llorente? A member of Spain's World Cup squad and, at 6 ft 5 in, surely up to the job of getting involved in the Premier League.

1403: A few of you are claiming to have spotted Dutch forward Wesley Sneijder in Manchester, either at the airport or heading to Old Trafford. I heard he was just checking out that new red box-like stand at the cricket ground.

1400: FOUR HOURS UNTIL THE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS

1357: Here it is - the one we wanted, the big one. Oh, perhaps not. I've got a little ahead of myself. Pele has left MK Dons. The 32-year-old Cape Verdean defender had been at Stadium MK on non-contract terms this season but is now free to find a new club after the deadline.

1357: We understand that Blackburn are looking to offload striker Jason Roberts, with Bulgarian attacking midfielder Ivelin Popov lined up as his replacement.

1354: Can anyone think of a player (in addition to Robbie Keane) who really does favour a TDD move?

1352: What this TDD needs is a BIG ONE - and I'm not talking about Jason Roberts. A transfer that comes out of the blue and takes the breath away, the one we will all be talking about through the evening and at work in the morning. It is not going to happen though, is it?

1350: With regard to DaMarcus Beasley (1345) - I'm told it has happened, though of course he had already left Rangers.

1349: Liverpool are "dotting the i's and crossing the t's" on the Paul Konchesky deal, but are keeping their lips sealed on Roy Hodgson's pursuit of a striker to support Fernando Torres.

BBC Sport's Jonathan Stevenson: "Lots of chat about the South African defender Bongani Khumalo, who was on trial at Spurs last week. My sources reckon he could be set for a permanent switch to White Hart Lane, but he might stay with SuperSport United until January. Don't expect anything to be announced today."

1347: It seems that Gylfi Sigurdsson's move to Hoffenheim could be worth more then the £6m originally thought. Reading say it is the club's record transfer fee received, which was previously the £6.5m that Wolves paid them for Kevin Doyle. I've seen him play a couple of times and rate him very highly. Nice return for Reading on their investment in their youth system.

1345: Lots of reports flying about that USA international DaMarcus Beasley has left Rangers for German side Hannover.

1342: DONE DEAL: Carlisle have signed Slovakia international defender Lubomir Michalik on loan from Leeds until 3 January.

1340: DONE DEAL: Kilmarnock have signed Alexei Eremenko on loan until the end of the year from Ukraine club Metalist Kharkiv. The 27-year-old Finnish international is an attacking midfielder who can play a number of roles. The Rugby Park manager Mixu Paatelainen has used his contacts in his homeland to land Eremenko, who has scored 13 goals in 44 appearances for Finland.

1320: BBC Sport's Mandeep Sanghera on Twitter: "The transfer of Brazilian forward Robinho from Manchester City to AC Milan appears to be getting close. A deal between the two clubs has yet to be agreed but a source at the San Siro says: 'Robinho is in Gallarate for a medical and he will then come to Milanello (AC Milan's training ground)'."

1315: Plymouth are set to sign Guadeloupe-born defender Stephane Zubar by the end of the day. The 23-year-old, whose brother Ronald plays for Wolves, has played in France, Belgium and Romania.

1312: No further word on Roque Santa Cruz. The Paraguayan striker does seem to be surplus to requirements at Man City and it would not be a big surprise if he does move.

1307: DEAL DONE Midfielder Salif Diao has returned to Stoke after signing a new two-year contract. No further word on Eidur Gudjohnsen.

But the Blues have missed out on another target, Armand Traore, who is on his way to Juventus on a one-year loan.

1301: Reports coming in that Rotherham have turned down a bid from Plymouth Argyle for lower league hotshot Adam Le Fondre, while Lincoln have released transfer-listed duo Shane Clarke and Chris Fagan, meaning they can find other clubs after the transfer window shuts.

1229: Busy, busy at Leeds United, who are understood to have agreed a fee with Manchester City to sign midfielder Adam Clayton on a permanent basis after his initial month's loan spell at Elland Road, during which the 21-year-old made two substitute appearances.

1227: DEAL DONE: And Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp said all would be quiet on the Spurs front today... Croatian keeper Stipe Pletikosa's arrival from Spartak Moscow on a season-long loan has only gone and been confirmed hasn't it. We're rocking and rolling now.

1225: Is it me or is the day slowly picking up speed? QPR say they expect one or two deals to go through today. They would not confirm whether Derby striker Rob Hulse was one of the players they are pursuing. QPR boss Neil Warnock said on Saturday he has got seven players on a list of targets, including four wingers and two strikers and he hopes to bring in one of each.

1219: Meanwhile, Swansea have turned an offer from Leicester for Ashley Williams. Call me crazy, but it is all happening in the Championship. Leicester, of course, are managed by former Swans boss Paulo Sousa.

1218: BBC Radio Derby understands that Derby County are set to complete the signing of Real Valladolid striker Alberto Bueno on a season-long loan deal. Good one that - geddit?

1210: Italian news agency Ansa has reported that Juve have paid Arsenal 500,000 euros to take 20-year-old left-back Armand Traore on loan from the English side. The Turin club will have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

1206: A couple of rumours to let you know about. Blackpool have been linked with Wycombe winger Matt Phillips, Robbie Keane has been linked with Turkish side Besiktas and according to a poster on a QPR messageboard, the Championship leaders have signed Tommy Smith from Portsmouth.

Apparently the Potters have agreed a deal to cover the Icelandic striker's wages on a season-long loan deal. They're also reporting that Portsmouth's Marc Wilson is at the Britannia Stadium discussing terms on a deal.

1036: It's not a done deal, but it's as near as dammit a Premier League club has got so far - Wolves are going to sign striker Marcus Bent on loan from Birmingham until 4 January.

1033: Mandeep Sanghera reports: "If you are an Arsenal fan hoping Monsieur Wenger might have been plotting a late move for highly-rated France and Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris then you are going to be disappointed. A Lyon spokesman was quite categorical when told of Arsenal being linked with Lloris. 'It is a big mistake,' he said. 'I can be sure Hugo Lloris will stay with Lyon for a long time.'"

0940: BBC Radio Leicester understands the Foxes are going to sign Martyn Waghorn for about £2m from Sunderland today, though it might depend on whether the Black Cats can sign Asamoah Gyan or anyone else.

0937: Foreign news just in: Senegalese international centre-back Pape Diakhate, 26, has joined Lyon on a season-long loan from Dynamo Kiev.

0935: Birmingham manager Alex McLeish is hoping to wrap up at least two deadline day deals today, with Arsenal defender Armand Traore, 20, set to join on loan and Spartak Moscow defender Martin Jiranek, 31, for a cut-price fee. They've also been linked with another move for Charles N'Zogbia and Barcelona's Alex Hleb too.

Liverpool enquired about the Swedish international a couple of weeks ago but have not been back since. 'They (Liverpool) came once, we said we didn't want to sell and they have not been back,' said a PSV spokesman. He added that he didn't expect Toivonen, who is on international duty, to be going anywhere but, with it being transfer deadline day, could not rule it out categorically. He added: 'It will be nice when today is over and we don't have to deal with these rumours until December.'"

0740: I mean, these days can either be ludicrously entertaining or heartbreakingly dull. 0625: Another deal that jumps out is the proposed move of Alexander Hleb to Birmingham from Barcelona for between £4m-5m. He's not exactly had a great time of it since leaving Arsenal, but the Belarussian would be a stellar signing for the Blues.

0622: Now then - it wouldn't be much of a transfer deadline day without Tottenham or Manchester City, would it? No surprise, then, that the major surprise on the back pages of today's newspapers is a story suggesting City's former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor might join Spurs on loan for the rest of the season.
