  1. 'Franzoni threw everything at it today'published at 12:04 GMT 7 February

Giovanni Franzoni is an incredible character. He races with such intensity.

He carried the bull in that tuck position. He almost compensated his clean turns by fighting for that aerodynamic position. We are used to seeing him skiing with no outside ski pressure.

He has so much strength and normally skis with such finesse. That was not his tactic today - he threw everything at it.

What a treat! A gold medal before midday.

One down... I'm not even going to count how many to go...

The next one up for grabs is in the women's 10km+skiathlon, which is starting right now.

It's worth mentioning that Franjo von Allman's winning time of one minute 51.61 seconds is 3.35 seconds faster than the slowest time recorded in that final.

3.35 seconds doesn't seem a long time, but in downhill it really is!

  5. 'An almost perfect run from Von Allmen'published at 11:57 GMT 7 February

Franjo von Allmen is normally really wild and ends up in the net. But he pulled that back today and had that Swiss precision.

He took a higher line and was rapid through the speed gun. That was the gold medal defining moment for me. An almost perfect run.

  6. Italian duo take silver and bronzepublished at 11:55 GMT 7 February

Home nation Italy are off to a great start at these Games as Giovanni Franzoni takes silver in the men's downhill and Dominik Paris clinches bronze.

Switzerland's Franjo von Allmen's time of one minute 51.61 seconds was just too hard to beat and he is now the reigning world and Olympic champion in men's downhill.

What a moment for the 24-year-old.

There are four matches in the women's ice hockey today, one of which is already under way on the BBC Red Button.

Germany are 3-0 up against Japan in Milan while Finland play the US at 15:40 GMT, having had their previous match postponed because of a norovirus outbreak in their squad.

    There's also Sweden v Italy (13:40) and Switzerland v Canada (20:10).

The camera has just panned to Franjo von Allmen, who had a massive smile on his face as he gave us a big thumbs up.

There are just 10 skiers to go. Can anyone spring a late surprise and disrupt the medal positions?

Franjo von Allmen is still in gold medal position and looks set to claim the Olympic title with just a dozen skiers left to go.

The Swiss man, who became the youngest downhill world champion in 36 years in 2025, is also a trained carpenter and has worked on construction sites in the past.

What a moment this could be for the 24-year-old.

Kirsty Muir and her freeski team-mates did something a bit left-field before the Olympic season got under way - they went freediving.

"It was to put ourselves in a high-pressure situation and see how we reacted, managed ourselves and told our minds to chill out in this high-stress situation," Muir told BBC Radio 5 Live a few weeks ago.

"We started off just breathing on the ground, then we moved into a static tub and that’s where I held my breath for three minutes in the end.

"Then we moved into a quarry, went down a rope and ended up 15-17 metres down. It’s pitch black, you can’t see anything, and you start overthinking - that’s when you’ve really got to centre yourself and calm down.

"It’s helped a lot with my skiing because I realise now that I perform a lot better when I am calmer."

  14. Slopestyle qualifying done and dustedpublished at 11:30 GMT 7 February

    Women's freeski slopestyle qualifying

So that's qualifying done and dusted for the women's freeski slopestyle.

Great Britain's Kirsty Muir has made it safely through to the final, finishing third overall. Can she keep that up on Monday to grab a medal?

Switzerland's Mathilde Gremaud - the reigning Olympic champion - topped the leaderbaord with a score of 79.15, while Chinese superstar Eileen Gu redeemed herself after a first-run fall with a score of 75.30 to finish second.

    Others weren't so lucky...

These Swiss fans will be delirious, there are so many here to support Von Allmen. He knows that the best of the skiers have been and gone.

No-one seems to be challenging the time set by the Swiss skier at the moment.

The podium positions remain the same with Switzerland's Franjo von Allmen leading the way and Italy's Giovanni Franzoni and Dominik Paris in second and third respectively.

It's going to take a big performance from the remaining pack to alter the standings!

  17. How things stand in the mixed doublespublished at 11:25 GMT 7 February

Curling mixed doubles - GB v Canada

So, Great Britain are in the best possible place to qualify for the mixed doubles semi-final.

Earlier this morning they maintained their 100% record with a statement victory over heavyweights Canada.

The sense is six wins should be enough for a place in the last four and the British pair have already hit that mark to sit top of the round-robin standings.

    Women's freeski slopestyle qualifying

That's a reminder of how cruel the Winter Olympics can be.

Kim Zanella Dumont of France was riding brilliantly through the first half of her run, but it comes a bit loose and she crashes horribly on the final jump.

She's not physically hurt, but she punches the snow and let's out a massive sob. A score of 22.85 will not be enough.

  19. 'Von Allmen knows how to win'published at 11:16 GMT 7 February

Franjo von Allmen has a tremendous clasp between his knees and is so aerodynamic in the air.

He knew every bit of critical transition to capitalise on and knows exactly how to win this downhill.

  20. Muir through to Monday's finalpublished at 11:13 GMT 7 February

There's the official confirmation we needed, Great Britain's Kirsty Muir is through to Monday's final with a score of 64.98. She's still in third.

Second-placed Eileen Gu is also through, despite that torrid first run.
