Matteo Arnaldi starts with a couple of double faults and an unforced error - perhaps an early sign of nerves as he starts his first Grand Slam quarter-final?

Two break points for Matteo Berrettini, who puts away an overhead smash to make the perfect start.

    Berrettini 0-0 Arnaldi*

This is the first time that Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi have played each other at tour level, and it's in a French Open quarter-final.

Berrettini is in a sky blue polo shirt and black shorts, Arnaldi is also in sky blue - but a vest rather than a shirt - with white shorts.

The roof on Chatrier is closed and it's Arnaldi to serve first.

Matteo Arnaldi is into his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final - and he's done it the hard way.

The 25-year-old has spent 17 hours and 42 minutes on court, breaking the record for longest time en route to a major quarter-final since the ATP Tour began recording match times in 1991.

His past two matches, against Frances Tiafoe and Raphael Collignon, have gone to five sets.

    Berrettini v Arnaldi

Matteo Berrettini is no stranger to the latter stages of a Grand Slam - he got to the Wimbledon final in 2021, losing to Novak Djokovic, and this is the seventh time that he's got to at least the last eight of a major.

Many expected that Wimbledon final appearance to be a platform for sustained success for the big-serving Italian, but his career has been hampered by numerous injury problems since then.

    Berrettini v Arnaldi

It's the world number 105 against the world number 104 tonight and it's the first time two men ranked outside the top 100 have met in a Grand Slam quarter-final since 1991.

And it's only the second time that two Italian men have met in a major quarter-final. The first was at last year's US Open, when Jannik Sinner defeated Lorenzo Musetti.

The depth in Italian men's tennis is pretty strong right now.

    Berrettini v Arnaldi

Wednesday's night session will be getting under way shortly as the last of the four men's quarter-finals is played under the lights on Court Philippe Chatrier.

I'm going to make a bold prediction: an Italian named Matteo will win.

Flavio Cobolli, speaking on Court Philippe-Chatrier after his quarter-final victory: "I think we played two different matches today. The first set was incredibly windy. It was really tough to play. I went to the toilet to think a bit and to change something.

"This is the best court I have ever played in my life. I experienced my best tennis and I said to myself 'to fight' because I felt like this is the chance of my life. I have to give everything in my matches, and today I did it, so I am really happy."

On the wind: "Tennis is like this every day it changes. This week it changed a lot. We have to accept everything. I think I did that today and that's why maybe I won this match."
