Absolutely smashing start from Higgins. These two have been so well matched (in both strengths and errors) it's making for a gripping watch.

  3. Higgins restores two-frame leadpublished at 21:29 GMT 13 January

    Higgins 4-2 Hawkins (99-0, Higgins 99)

John Higgins is so close to a century, but misses the red with a rest for a 100.

Still, a brilliant break of 99 after a fine long red after Barry Hawkins had missed something similar and the Scot is two ahead, two away from the finish line.

Without those mistakes Barry could be 4-1 up after this frame but I think those errors will come back to haunt him.

  5. Hawkins wins first frame after restartpublished at 21:11 GMT 13 January

    Higgins 3-2 Hawkins (9-71, Hawkins 64)

That will make Barry Hawkins feel better as he gets a frame on the board after losing the previous three.

If we are to continue with our result run of 6-2s, then Hawkins can't win any more. He will be desperate to make sure this isn't another 6-2.

    Higgins 3-1 Hawkins

Barry Hawkins makes a break of 64 but, with hampered cueing and having to use a rest, he then misses frame red. He is still 71-1 ahead though so in control of this frame.

  11. Why does the table at the Masters look square on TV?published at 20:39 GMT 13 January

Television coverage of the Masters at Alexandra Palace has caused confusion among some viewers because of a changed camera angle of the table.

The event, which is being broadcast in the United Kingdom by BBC Sport and TNT Sports, has a slightly altered camera perspective to previous tournaments.

Three-time world champion Mark Williams has been among the watchers who have questioned why the broadcast made the table look square.

The Welsh world number four posted on X: "Is it me or am I watching snooker on a 12 by 12 table? Looks square on my TV."

The change has been caused by the main camera being moved back two metres at the black ball end due to extra seating being added at Alexandra Palace.

The camera at the Masters is usually angled at a 20-degree angle, but it is instead at 22 degrees this year.

Three half-centuries in a row from John Higgins - 50 in frame two, 71 in frame three, 53 in frame four - and he has punished mistakes from Barry Hawkins.

There's the mid-session interval. Hawkins will be looking for an improvement when we come back.

    Higgins 2-1 Hawkins

Barry Hawkins moves 4-0 in front in frame four following a nice plant and then instantly loses that advantage as he undercooks a rolled safety from near the yellow pocket to the yellow ball to concede a foul, 4-4.

Barry Hawkins won the first frame after trailing 35-0 and now John Higgins has taken the third frame from being 46-0 down. A break of 71, successive half-century breaks from Higgins, gives him the lead.

John Higgins came to the table 46-0 behind, he's now ahead and still going.

  16. Postpublished at 20:09 GMT 13 January

    Higgins 1-1 Hawkins

Barry Hawkins looked in good form at that visit and gets 46-0 ahead, but then misses a black off the spot. He's furious with himself, repeatedly taps his head in a 'concentrate' gesture and that gives Higgins an opportunity.
