  1. Murphy in total controlpublished at 14:37 BST 23 April

    Murphy 4-0 Xiao

Shaun Murphy wins frame four 71-16 to take a 4-0 lead into the mid-session interval.

Xiao made an awful pot on the red that was so weak the cue ball rolled right up against a group of reds and left him with a snooker.

That allowed Murphy back to the table, and from there he made a break of 63.

  2. Vafaei through to second roundpublished at 14:33 BST 23 April

    Si 3-10 Vafaei

We will have a qualifier in the second round!

Hossein Vafaei storms past Si Jiahui, winning nine frames on the bounce.

In the final frame he makes a break of 68 to clinch it 69-24.

Si becomes the first - and so far only - seeded payer to suffer a first round exit his year.

Vafaei's reward is a second round meeting with world number one Judd Trump

Shaun Murphy will be heading straight to his dressing room at the mid-session interval, but Xiao Guodong will go to the practice table and knock some balls around. He hasn't gotten into this one at all.

Hossein Vafaei is looking very dangerous at the moment as he dismantles Si Jiahui. He may be the only qualifier to make it through to the last 16.

  6. Vafaei wins againpublished at 14:20 BST 23 April

    Si 3-9 Vafaei

Hossein Vafaei is bossing it right now.

The Iranian makes a break of 78 to win the 12th frame 90-6. That's eight frames won in a row.

Vafaei is one frame away from becoming the first qualifier to reach the second round at this World Championship.

    Murphy 3-0 Xiao

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

Xiao Guodong got exactly what he deserved there.

When Shaun Murphy was snookered when trying to play the brown, Xiao should have said 'no, play from there', rather than taking the penalty points.

The points are immaterial when there are still all those reds left on the table.

  8. Murphy wins third frame with centurypublished at 14:14 BST 23 April

    Murphy 3-0 Xiao

Shaun Murphy pots a red, but the cue ball doesn't fall kindly at all and he is snookered.

Murphy fouls seven times - gifting Xiao Guodong 28 penalty points - while trying to make an extremely difficult shot off four cushions to hit the brown, though he came very close on a couple of occasions.

The Englishman takes a bow when he finally gets it right, and is soon back at the table constructing a break of 103 to win the frame 108-28.

To concede all those penalty points and go on to make a century is very impressive.

    Murphy 2-0 Xiao

    Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC Two

Xiao Guodong needs to play a couple of telling safety shots to give himself a chance.

He's not been able to get in yet, he's barely had a chance.

Not looking good for Jiahui, can't "Si" him turning this around.

  11. Vafaei wins againpublished at 13:58 BST 23 April

    Si 3-8 Vafaei

This match is surely only heading in one direction now.

Seven frames on the bounce - the Iranian is strolling towards the second round.

He's such an elegant player, Shaun Murphy, always has been.

He dresses immaculately as well, he's a traditionalist.

    Murphy 2-0 Xiao

Shaun Murphy races into a two-frame lead.

The 2005 champion compiles a break of 79 with Xiao Guodong limited to one shot.

Murphy made a very attacking break on the third red - a high risk strategy but it pays off handsomely.

    He looks extremely confident.

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

Sometimes when you have a match in the first round like Shaun Murphy did when it looks like you could be going home but you scramble over the line, it can be a real boost.

It can focus your mind, thinking 'I could already be out'.

  16. Murphy wins openerpublished at 13:33 BST 23 April

    Murphy 1-0 Xiao

After a strange break that barely shifted the reds, Shaun Murphy takes the opener.

He finds his groove and breaks for 31 to wrap up the frame 80-7.

Xiao Guodong looks a bit shaky.

  17. Vafaei picks up where he left offpublished at 13:28 BST 23 April

    Si 3-7 Vafaei

Hossein Vafaei's grip on this match hasn't loosened as he extends his lead to four frames.

Vafaei kicks things off with a break of 28, before Si Jiahui brings him back to the table with a miss on pink.

From there Vafaei compiles a break of 53 to take the frame 81-22.

On the plus side for Si, he did managed to pot for the first time since the sixth frame.

  18. Si 3-6 Vafaei*published at 13:13 BST 23 April

This afternoon we'll see the conclusion of the first round match between Si Jiahui and Hossein Vafaei.

Si took a 3-1 lead yesterday, but Vafaei took the following five frames to put himself in a commanding position.

Si could become the first seed to fall in the first round this year - 14 of the 16 have reached the second round.
