I'd like John to win but both Neil and Kyren looked excellent and I'd fancy whoever wins their QF to go on and win it.

    Samuel, Beeston

Would love to see Higgins roll back the years and win the Masters. Though I have a sneaky suspicion that it might be a Trump vs Robertson final. Would be class!

When the balls are open it shows you how they can play. That was more like it and it will ramp up after the interval for sure.

  3. All square at the intervalpublished at 21:14 GMT 15 January

    Trump 2-2 Allen

Mark Allen ups the tempo and crafts a lovely break of 76 to head into the mid-session interval at 2-2.

Judd Trump was in first and will be kicking himself for missing a routine blue to the middle. His highest break this evening is just 35.

Looking like this going all the way, I fancy Judd for the title.

    Michael, Wakefield

I'm calling it early. The left hander will triumph in this enthralling encounter!

    Johnny

I would love to see John win this year.

    Trump 2-1 Allen

Mark Allen is at the table and in full flow on a break of 29. This is looking more promising.

Judd Trump was in first and will be kicking himself for missing a routine blue to the middle.

Watched some tedious snooker in my 50yrs, this is right up there with Thorburn v Griffiths ;-)

It has been tough match-play snooker with some great safety. Judd Trump is trying to match Mark Allen for safety, but he is turning down shots. You have to play to your strengths.

  8. Trump wins protracted third framepublished at 20:57 GMT 15 January

    Trump 2-1 Allen

Sensational long blue from Judd Trump with his fingers tucked up on the top cushion.

He has not potted a ball for nearly 23 minutes but then wraps up the frame by knocking in the pink and black as well.

That third frame was around the 50-minute mark, which is local snooker-club territory, albeit the standard is invariably miles higher.

I've a sneaky feeling the winner of Robertson/Wilson will go all the way. Both incredible players when they're on form and I thought they both looked impressive in their first rounds.

    Howard, Norfolk

It's either Higgins or Allen for me

    Liam, Scotland

    Trump 1-1 Allen

The frame is about 35 minutes old with the scores at 55-48 each when Judd Trump misses a red and clips the black to concede seven.

Mark Allen knocks in a red but then refuses the pink. The Northern Irishman forces another error out of the world number one but then snookers himself on the green with the frame at his mercy.

It's been a stop-start encounter thus far. Trump's average break is just 22.5 points. Allen's is a touch under 32 points.

Travelling home after being at Ally Pally this afternoon - what an amazing match and performance from John. Would be great to see him win the tournament from here.

    Trump 1-1 Allen

A fairly scrappy and bitty second frame goes Judd Trump's way.

That was one for the purists.

Got to be the best safety exchange I’ve seen at the start of a match. Ended with a fluke but those first shots were amazing. 5 cushions escape - one cushion and 2 cushions safety - amazing !!!

  16. Allen takes the openerpublished at 19:40 GMT 15 January

    Trump 0-1 Allen

Judd Trump gets among the balls early on but loses position.

Still with a 50-0 lead he is the firm favourite to take the opening frame, that is until Mark Allen manages to snooker him behind the yellow and then enjoys a run of 69 to pinch it.

Mark Allen got bogged down for the last 18 months but he looked really good against Mark Williams going through the gears.

He is a gritty, tenacious character and he shows that on the table. When he plays up tempo he looks better and is more entertaining.

John Higgins awaits the winner this evening in the semi-finals on Saturday.

I wonder what he's up to tonight. He must feel a million dollars after knocking out world champion Zhao Xintong 6-5 this afternoon.
