  1. 'Potential for Freeman to be world-class Test centre'published at 14:43 GMT 10 February

Question from Mark: How credible is Tommy Freeman as a long-term outside centre choice? Dingwall-Freeman makes sense from a club perspective but would Dingwall-Lawrence with Freeman on the bench be better?

Hi Mark. Given his form over the past couple of seasons, I can't see a situation where Freeman is not involved in the starting XV in some shape or form. I think he has a bit of work to do to become a world-class Test centre - like he is as a winger - but I do see the potential for him to get there. He's big, reads the game well, and seldom makes mistakes. Ultimately there is no harm in England having a handful of quality options at number 13; it wasn't long ago centre was a bit of a problem area.

After the first weekend of action, some minds inevitably slipped to the final one.

England and France, the pre-tournament favourites and big winners of their opening matches, will meet in Paris in the final match of the tournament.

England back row Ben Earl is not looking that far ahead.

"It's important to win, to get used to winning, and important to perform well," he told Rugby Union Weekly.

"No-one is talking about Paris in our camp I promise you. We said in the huddle after beating Wales, 'Well done, but we haven't won at Murrayfield in ages.' We have to right some wrongs."

  3. Hooker switch 'interesting, if not surprising'published at 14:35 GMT 10 February

After making a rare appearance as a replacement against Wales, there was never any doubt Itoje would return to lead the side in Edinburgh.

The change at hooker is interesting, if not hugely surprising. George and Cowan-Dickie have regularly swapped places over the past few years, with the latter providing ballast from the off and the former experience and poise off the bench.

Cowan-Dickie's lineout throwing, an area where George has always had the edge, was on the money against Wales.

Captain Maro Itoje started last week's win over Wales on the replacements bench after travelling to Nigeria for his mother Florence's funeral.

It was the first minutes of Six Nations action he has missed since 2019, having played all of every England match in the tournament since.

Jamie George, who led the team from the start in Itoje's absence against Wales, is back among the replacements as Luke Cowan-Dickie gets the nod as starting hooker.

Whoever makes the cut, they will jog out at Murrayfield for a 16:40 GMT kick-off on Saturday.

Scotland have won three of the last four meetings in Edinburgh, dating back to a Finn Russell mispass that dropped so perfectly between Jonathan Joseph and Jonny May, its parabola is still studied by Ivy League mathmaticians in their downtime at Nasa's mission control.

  10. What the papers saypublished at 14:18 GMT 10 February

Scotland v England (Sat, 16:40 GMT)

The Times and the Daily Telegraph believe they have an early insight into England's plans.

The Times predict, external that England will stick with the same backline that beat Wales - Steward; Roebuck, Freeman, Dingwall, Arundell; Ford, Mitchell - and that captain Maro Itoje, who started the Wales game on the bench after arriving late in camp in the wake of his mother's funeral, will start in the second row.

The Telegraph agree, external that Borthwick will keep the same backline, but add in an interesting tidbit of information among the replacements with Fin Smith apparently set to nudge out Marcus Smith as the backline replacement.

It would leave Tommy Freeman as the most obvious candidate to stand in at full-back if Freddie Steward goes down with an injury.

Fin Smith is apparently being primed for an inside centre role if there is a gap in midfield.

    Good idea?

    News from the physios' room.

Centre Ollie Lawrence and fly-half Fin Smith are back in contention for a starting spot after missing the Wales win as they rehabilitated from minor injuries.

There is no return for wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso though. The Exeter flier pulled out of the starting line-up to face Wales with a leg injury suffered in training last Thursday. Steve Borthwick has said that the 23-year-old could miss the entirity of the championship.

Prop Vilikesa 'Billy' Sela has an injury to work off and so Bristol's George Kloska, part of the England A side which beat an Ireland second-string last Friday, has been called up to cover tighthead prop.
