    Kyle Steyn, Con Horne

And it's that man Steyn who applies the finish.

The rolling maul is halted but when the ball comes wide Sione Tuipulotu fixes two defenders then pops the ball to Steyn coming in on a trademark line off his wing to glide through for the try.

Kyle Steyn guides a beautiful kick right into the corner for a 50/22 and Glasgow have a fantastic attacking platform with a 5m lineout.

Just nipped into the media room to grab a half-time pie to sustain me for the second half, but the ravenous beasts of the Scottish rugby press corps had already demolished every single one of them.

It's tough at this level and even a split second's hesitation can make all the difference.

    HT: Glasgow Warriors 7-7 Connacht

We said at the outset that this did not look like your typical first v eighth quarter-final and so it has proven so far.

Connacht are a tough side and their physicality and organisation in defence has largely thwarted the Warriors attack.

That being said, Glasgow have had their opportunities, but so have Connacht. Only that stunning bit of cover defence from Kyle Steyn prevented them from scoring a second try.

It's on a knife edge this one.

We've been treated to a quick blast of Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" over the stadium tannoy.

Tom English beside me quips, "Glasgow can't shake Connacht off".

He has been given a verbal warning.

  8. Glasgow frustrated by Connacht's defencepublished at 20:27 BST 29 May

    Tom English

Connacht have the best defensive stats in the URC and we're seeing why. They're a very tough nut to crack right now. Even when Glasgow make line breaks - and they've had a few - then their scramble defence has been excellent. Kyle Steyn's tackle was a try-saver but this is a tad worrying for Glasgow. Connacht have settled, Ioane and Aki are having huge games and Glasgow failed to score when it was 15 versus 14. The men from the west of Ireland are not looking like the eighth best in the competition

    Glasgow Warriors 7-7 Connacht

On what will be his last Scotstoun appearance before he departs for France in the summer, Johnny Matthews is really in the thick of the action.

The hooker is popping up all over the pitch to get his hands on the ball.

Another Glasgow attack is thwarted by this tough Connacht defence.

Both attacks just struggling to fire a little at the moment.

Glasgow are on the attack until the ball goes down and Josh Ioane is onto it in a flash.

He sprints free and looks for all the world like he's going to score but Kyle Steyn shows extraordinary pace and desire to hunt him down.

Glasgow get the turnover and George Horne box-kicks to touch.

How big could that moment prove to be?

Kyle Steyn comes off his wing into the line and makes a brilliant break.

He dinks a little grubber through for Kyle Rowe and if he gathers he is free and clear, but the ball just won't sit up for him and bobbles out of play.

    Glasgow Warriors 7-7 Connacht

The game has just got a little scrappy this last few minutes with a lot of balls going to deck.

Sam Illo is back out the sin bin so Connacht are back up to their full compliment.

    Glasgow Warriors 7-7 Connacht

Connacht have done really well to weather that storm and have now got themselves back down into Glasgow territory.

A clever kick in behind from Josh Ioane causes a bit of panic in the Warriors back-field and Connacht are able to force a turnover, but are then pinged for holding on and Glasgow should be able to get exit from here.

  15. Connacht struggling to hang onpublished at 20:07 BST 29 May

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland chief sports writer

Connacht are now in a tight spot. A man down, Glasgow coming at them in waves and their discipline crashing. They've conceded five penalties already and the game is only 18 minutes old

Johnny Matthews had peeled off the base of the ruck to touch down, but the referee deems that Matt Fagerson ahead of the ball illegally clears a path for the hooker to score and the try is ruled out.

    As you were.

A lovely break from George Horne gets Glasgow moving and he finds Sione Tuipulotu who makes big ground by stepping away from several tackles.

The move is halted but the referee has seen something he doesn't like and Connacht prop Sam Illo is shown the yellow card.

    Glasgow kick to the corner...

  20. try

Try! Glasgow 7-7 Connachtpublished at 10 mins

    Patrick Schickerling, Con Horne

    Glasgow do hit back!

Warriors pummel away at the Connacht line until Patrick Schickerling finds a gap to burrow over the line.

    Breathless start to this quarter-final.
