    Djokovic 5-7 6-5 Thiem*

Thiem is annoyed again having gotten a racquet on a Djokovic smash but failing to get the ball back in play. He yells something but I'm afraid my German isn't good enough to tell you what he said.

We're hearing a bit of Oasis as Djokovic takes a seat 6-5 in front in the set. Nice.

    *Djokovic 5-7 5-5 Thiem

Thiem has been solid as a rock this afternoon on the big points. From 30-30 he finds two powerful serves that even Novak Djokovic can't return. We're still all square in this set.

    Djokovic 5-7 5-4 Thiem*

In that change of ends I saw a clip of a blatant penalty not given for my football team. I'm feeling pretty frustrated, as Djokovic will be as he sees another backhand winner whistle past him.

That said, Thiem makes an error a point later and we're at 30-30. A chance?

    Djokovic 5-7 5-4 Thiem*

Djokovic shows his footballing skills by the kicking the ball away with a backheel behind his head. Think an amateur version of Olivier Giroud v Crystal Palace.

Djokovic slowly wanders to his chair after wrapping up another game.

That won't do Djokovic's mental state any good - a break point that he didn't take.

    *Djokovic 5-7 4-4 Thiem

Wooooft! Now that's a shot from Dominic Thiem. He crunches a backhand down the line to seal the game.

It's a very good hold for the Austrian under pressure.

Oooooo. That must have been close! Djokovic thought he had broken through but a late call comes from the technology much to Thiem's relief.

    Deuce.

An error from Thiem now. Here's Djokiovic's first break point of the match...

A double fault and a backhand error from Thiem gives Djokovic a sniff.

    15-30.

Thiem bangs down an ace to draw level.

    Still a chance for Novak...

    Djokovic 5-7 4-3 Thiem*

Thiem reached the final here last year and the place was absolutely rocking during his tussle with champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. It'll be a totally different experience for whoever gets there.

Djokovic holds again. It feels like we're just going through the motions until the business end of the set.

    *Djokovic 5-7 3-3 Thiem

Djokovic waves an arm out in that classic sign of frustration after missing his backhand again. Still, there's no explosion for anger.

The Serb's coach Marian Vajda looks a little concerned behind his face mask.

It's a quick hold for Thiem.

You sort of feel there's an undercurrent to this match - frustration from Djokovic's point of view but tension for Thiem realising the opportunity is there.

    Djokovic 5-7 3-2 Thiem*

Danger averted for now from Djokovic's point of view. That was a chance for Thiem.

The way Djokovic is asking for the ball, 'quickly, quickly'. Dangerous times.

Thiem is furious after faltering having fought to get into the rally. The break point is saved by Djokovic.

    Deuce.

Djokovic nets and Tim Henners Henman suggests in comms the Serb doesn't have that steely look in his eye. It's a bit like what I was saying earlier. He's relaxed but is he too relaxed?

    30-30.

    *Djokovic 5-7 2-2 Thiem

Thiem wins his latest service game in a flash and jogs over to his bag to take out a new racquet. The old one was doing just fine.

    Djokovic 5-7 2-1 Thiem*

Djokovic misses a forehand and stares back at his box over his shoulder. The error doesn't prevent him winning the game but I just wonder whether a big release of energy from Djokovic is near.

He's been very level so far but must be grumbling inside.

Owais Majid: Djokovic's stomach for this event has been questioned a fair bit this week, so it'll be interesting to see how dialled in he is in the second set. Thiem playing well so far.
