    Williams 6-3 6-0 Sevastova

Serena Williams: "I don't know, I knew I had to play better [than the opening two games]. The crowd was so intense and helped me out after those first two games. I wanted to give them the best that I can.

"I have been working hard on my volleys. I have won a few doubles championships so I know how to volley. I usually only come into the net to shake hands! But I was paying such a good player so I knew to have a chance I would have to come in.

"I tried something different today and it worked in my favour. It's honestly really incredible. A year ago I was fighting after having the baby.

"I am just so grateful that I have an opportunity to play this sport. No matter what happens in semi-finals or finals, I feel like I have already won by just being here.

"Anything for me is a win to come this far so fast. I am just beginning. It has only been a few months. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and next year. I am looking forward to the possibilities."

    Now for the post-match interview.

"A year ago I was fighting literally for my life at the hospital after the baby," Williams says. Could that first Grand Slam since giving birth come on Saturday?

    Just. Too. Good.

Sevastova has no answer. She just can't compete. A 28th winner means Williams will now serve for a place in the final of the US Open.

Williams really is human. After that missed volley she double faults. The crowd are stunned.

But Sevastova can't convert. The ball is flying off her racquet and not in a good way. It's long and wide.

We've just ticked beyond the hour mark. Serena is in a rush.

    Williams 6-3 2-0 Sevastova*

Serena Williams is up at 24 winners from just 11 games. This is the best I have seen her play in a long, long time. The crowd are loving it. They're being treated to something special.

Williams is moving well too. The American sprints to pick up a drop shot.

Here's another break point. This is surely effectively a match point.

The Williams box looks so calm now. Coach Patrick is looking down fiddling with his fingers. Husband Alexis is unmoved. Someone has even got a dog in there!

Sevastova gets to 30-30 but Williams wins the game with two more excellent volleys. She's like an octopus at the net, getting her racquet on absolutely everything.
